Hi Folks.
I had a p0172 fault code( system too rich, bank one) come up for the first time yesterday in my 2010 be 3 Lt.
Engine warning light stayed on,and running fine.
Of concern was a constant ticking sound coming from the engine- top, drivers side, even with the ignition turned off.
I'm away from my usual address and favourite mechanical advice at present.
Anybody shed some light on this fault and noise please ?
Thanks in advance.
Regards.
Fish head.

What's the exhaust like? Does it smell like fuel? Is it wet? Could just be pumping through unburnt fuel.
I had a similar thing early last year and it turns out it bent a valve, so I was up for a new top end.

It still ticks with the engine off?
How long does it do this for with the ignition off and key out?
Are you getting battery drain issues? Could it be a relay?

No smell of fuel or wet exhaust Anthony,I cleared the fault code and now it's fine....for the moment.
The ticking was weird though, not a valve, more like a ticking solenoid or something.

Thanks Jeda.
It's not done it since I cleared the fault code.
Yes, ignition was off and key out, that was the strange thing.
Might get the battery checked when I can,it's probably getting close to replacement though the car starts fine.
It sounded like an electronic ticking sound for about 30 sec duration.
Coming from drivers side top ,rear of engine.
In hindsight I should have pulled the top cowl of straight away to pin point the area.
Certainly do that if it happens again.

What you can do is pull each coil and see what happens. Could be a shorting coil or whatever.

The 'ticking sound' is probably the throttle body doing its shut down checks.

Thanks Imoengnr.
Appreciate that comment.
I don't know these engines very well....and didn't realise the throttle body does this.
Many thanks.
