VY Ute S1
Recently I did an oil change on my VY V6 Commodore Ute.
All went well apart from spilling a good blob of new oil on the
headers and wiring to what I think are 02 sensors down near
the headers but could be wrong. Cleaned it up and let it idle to
burn the rest up but after driving it an hour later I am getting a
check alternator alarm and my dash gauges (Speedo, tacho, fuel gauge,
temp gauge ect) work when starting the car but stop working when
the motor revs any higher than idle speed.
The airconditioning fan speed is also playing up since this alarm started.
Anyone had this before or know what the problem may be and or if it is related to spilling the oil?
I'm thinking I might be up for a new alternator.

I also put a little too much oil in but only 3 or 4 mm above the full marker.

Any help very appreciated!

Check battery terminals are clean and tight.

Check leads between battery and alternator for damage/corrosion.

Wouldn't be out of reason for the alternator to just have shat itself, my old man's VY needed a new one at 150,000~. Not likely to be related to the oil spill unless you spilt oil directly onto the alt. But yeah make sure everything is tight before going to the effort to replace it.

Alternator regulator brushes getting low or regulator itself starting to die ? I had a vr this happened on years ago when light would only come on sometimes and found the brushes were getting to short to make contact
