I take it you have a personal loan and not finance. Have heard it’s pretty well impossible to get a car financed that’s a write off.

Possibly, it was that long ago and its changed hands a few times. Started with pepper finance.

If it’s a personal loan, the loan is generally not secured against the car so you’re free to do what you want with it. Call the finance co for details though. I’d part it out to get some money back, buy a $500 run around and take it as it comes with regards to the other driver.

As mentioned above their insurance co will likely take you to court and you’ll be put on a payment plan. You’ll still need to pay your loan off regardless.

Didn't look too bad in that photo.
Audi must have scrubbed off most speed before tapping you.
Get a new door and continue on you reckon?

Ring Holden for the cost of new bags, then talk to an auto electrician with regards to cost of fitting them, and also the possibility of fitting second hand bags.
If the costs are within reason, next step is locate doors, preferably white.
Doors are not hard to change but you will need another pair of hands to make it easier.
I have changed bags over in vz seats before without any drama.
Just have to make sure the key is removed and battery disconnected for a few minutes to remove any residual electricity.

As to the other car, just tell whoever chases you that you have no way of paying.
If they garnishee your wages (assuming you are working) change jobs.
Then if or when you have the car back on the road, ffs get at least third party property insurance to cover any damage you do to others.

    Good luck.

Good info to help with repairs, but why on earth would you encourage him to dodge his responsibilities as a member of society?
In the end he has done the wrong thing so must pay for his mistake.

I agree too. This sort of evasion of responsibility is far too common these days. If it isn't someone else's fault, it's "I can't pay".

i would keep following up with repeat court costs and interest added until the full amount is recovered

Insurance Co for the Audi should take care of any action against the OP. Other driver should be right to put his claim in and have his car repaired or paid out at no cost or time needed apart from what time it takes to call his insurance Co and provide the details. OP will most likely have no choice but to pay. Insurance Co will take what ever action needed to recover costs of repair and court. Probably be time payment but it could be a lot of years to pay it back depending on the amount they demand each week. If the OP is on Centrelink the debt collectors will just take a court ordered portion before he ever sees it in his bank.

The OP would be best to make his own arrangements with the insurer at what he can afford. If not debt collectors can garnish up to 90% of any Centrelink benefit, be it Newstart or a pension and you would have to take them to court to overturn the ruling. Taking no action will not work in the OP's favour either, quite the opposite. Only wise choice now is to suck it up and face the insurer.

Good suggestion but I have been in a similar situation....Uninsured driver rams the rear of my car....I take them to court and win claim....That person racks off interstate straight after the court awards my claim...I tracked them down to the place they are living....I have to travel 1400 kays round trip per court appearance to continue with my claim....I can't claim travel costs and the courts in the state they live may not take on my case.....

I have to pray that they come back to my state and I find out, so I can persue the claim

And that is why you must have comprehensive, or TPPD insurance.
Over the past 25 years, I have made 8 claims, 1 serious not at fault, 1 caused by an windscreen repairer while he was ‘test driving’ (?) my car, and 6 while my car has been legally parked ( FFS ! ), where either I, or others, have witnessed the incident and been able to supply all the required details.
Every time, hand it all over to my insurance company, and collect my car when repaired, no cost to me..

I have found in recent years since I am a safe driver my full comp is under $400 a year. Third party is probably half that. I would never take the chance in case I found myself in the path of an expensive import...

I'm curious …. why did your insurance company not pay for damage, represent you, and chase offender for costs ??

my thoughts too Fig. That is one reason I have full comp eveven on the old ute. Because in Launceston there are 100s of people with no TPP and if they hit me id like to know id have no issues with a pay out.

NSW problem ….. if you only have TPPD, your CTP increases by about 50 > 75%. Why ??
That just about negates ‘saving’ of TPPD over comprehensive if you have a shitter for a runabout..

I suggest that you contact Holden (pop in to a dealer). They have a guideline sheet on what to do after air bags bags have been deployed. I have seen the guideline sheet many years ago but I can’t recall exactly what was on it. I do recall that the propellant used is corrosive and that the car needs to be cleaned up carefully.

Absolutely, I simply cannot fathom why it isn't a condition of rego to have at least TPP insurance. My old VS only costs $280 a year for TPP and it gives me peace of mind that even if i took out a bloody bugatti veyron, i wouldn't be up for a cent.

It's also gobsmacking how many people confuse CTP with TPP, but that's a whole other conversation..
