Hi Guys looking for advice i have just been given a vr 3.8lt wagon for nix runs well but is totaly stock looks like a work wagon "Its white". Its all legal the owner passed away and left it to me. I'm Looking for ideas to do it up i have a budget of 2k this is what i was going to buy a car for. It will pass a roadworth except needs a sterring wheel it looks ok but the rubber is loose. any help apreciated.
How long till the roadworthy? How many k's on it? Depending on them I'd spend my money on replacing things and getting it running as good as you can, then most likely a full exhaust would be nice
Car has 197000 but dosen't blow any smoke and auto is good, tyres are good, indercators lens are new, everything seems to work as it should. When you say exhaust what would you suggest on a budget. thanks for the help
First thing i always do when buying a car is MAJOR service⦠Oil, Oil filter,Spark plugs, leads, fuel filter, air filter, diff oil, gearbox oil, bottle or 2 of fuel injector cleaner in half a tank of fuel, any seals thats leaking, brake flush(pads if needed) etc etc Get it reliable before anything.. Then start with mods
Depends how far you want to go in the future but I got my full system done for $925 including extractors, 2.5inch hi flo cat
Does anyone have a steering wheel to sell, non-air bag 3 spoke prefer grey some one told me i can repair the one i have, the foam is loose around the top is loose they say i can inject something in to the middle has any one heard of this.
I've heard of people using things like epoxy glue using a large gauge horse syringe, chances of finding a good second hand wheel are pretty slim as it's a common problem, an after market sports steering wheel would be one fix alternatively I just found this online Single Fix... no idea how good it is but for $30 it'd be worth a go imo.
Only problem with that is that if the car has factory fitted airbag then its illegal to remove it and replace it with a non airbag wheel
Everyone forgets about the oxy sensors.. Also cleaning out your plenum and replace the intake manifold seals. Other things to watch are the coils and DFI as well as TPS, IAC and CAS sensors. If doing pads, do pads and rotors. (i replaced my pads and rotors over a year ago and still have plenty of meat on the pads, bendix generals). Check suspension and bushes as well.
The slt99 just arived i have to say it was real easy, to use while its only been on/in for 5mins the steering wheel feels solid already. A big thanks Jxw. It should pass road worth now. fingers crossed.:spot on:
