Hey guys fitting a full system to My ssv soon and wondering once the CEL comes on will it hurt the engine? It's gonna get an OTR and tune very soon after but won't be done at same time. Will the car be ok for a week or two with the light on?

No the light only comes on due to the cats not being as efficient.

    You'll be fine.

Yep it is annoying as hell though, beeping as carrying on each time you get in the car.

When I did mine on my last ute I was told by my tuner not to take it into the top end until it was retuned as it would run lean however it had been tunned with just the catback beforehand as for powerloss mine lost 18.5 rwkw by adding extractors and cats before it was retuned

It will be fine, probably won't even notice it.

Was it you that rang me the other day?

No offence but I wouldn't listen to this advice.

Thrash the nuts out of it as if it had the standard exhaust if you want. My car gained power with an exhaust and no tune, so does everyone's normally?

OK cool. I lose track of who speaks to me. I know it's only one call for you guys but I get a few everyday so forgive me if I forget who you are.

Turtle, don't expect your CEL to come on straight away either....

I had my full system from NAAF installed for a week or 2 before the light actually came on.

It took 3 days after the headers and cats were installed, before the CEL came on in my Maloo.

    Yep good on ya...

My comment is relevant to the bloke who started the thread, stock tune with a new full exhaust, probably best he gets the info relevant to him.

Just had a VE SS hooked up to my computer for a touch up after an otr and full exhaust were put on.

The car is running roughly 10-14% too lean all over but fortunately the ecu is pumping in extra fuel by itself.

Well ill hopefully be fitting the system this weekend if it turns up before weekend, fingers crossed!!! And then I'll get it tuned not long after that. Just wanted to be sure driving it for a few weeks won't hurt it and by the info I've collected it shouldn't. Fitting an OTR without a tune can cause lean fuel mixtures where as I think the headers and cats is just emissions crap and I'm sure the ECU will protect the engine from any damage anyway. It's only gonna be 2 weeks or so in between the exhaust and fitting the OTR and tune.

And if it runs lean surely the knock sensors will back the timing off to protect it anyway.
