Have your say

Im just curious to see what people think about 6 cyl motors used in Holden's

It could be any 6cyl motor from 1970 - present
Just so i make myself clear.... only 6 cyl power plants .... thanks
No V8's, its not part of what im asking

What is your choice ?
Comment/Vote on your prefered choice
And tell any flaws you think should have been fixed, or in general... tell people what you think
Be sure the choice is part of the given choices.... dont add aditional ones that aint listed

I prefer the Series 2 ECOTEC motor
Any V8 from Holden or used in Holden's i dont go near

I dont mind the Supercharged Series 2 ECOTEC V6..... minus the occasiol downfall of the supercharger

The red six started life as a 149 in the EH Holden in 64. And you left out the black 202.

The first gen Commodore v6 isn't an Ecotec either.

186 with triples. Near everything before and since should be considered for transport and only when you have few other choices.

I was told that the VN - VSIII had the pre ECOTEC Series 2 motor in them

They still retained the same cover over the range

2015 Subaru Forester, XR6 turbo ute.
As stated, you have missed the most important engines(probably only remembered by us "older" people.)
179, or 186, bored to 192 was the big thing in my day. Had a couple with tripple Webers. Nothing beats the sound of 3 Webers on full song on a Holden 6 :smoking:
Most 202s were hand grenades(in standard form/red motors)
I still like the V6 3.8. Had a VR Calais I should have kept. Great car, great economy. IMHO, VR/VS were better than VT.

Red 6 202 came out in HQ right thru to VB Commodore. I suggest you redo your pole.

I voted for the 202 red motor as my favourite out of the engines listed. I think its biggest problem was the long stroke crank which made it thirsty on fuel and increased piston speed, which made it more prone to piston failure than the earlier motors that had a shorter stroke. I loved the sound of my old 186 with triple SU carbies.

If I had to vote for a "Holden" motor, it would be the 202...simply because that's the only 6 I've owned (apart from a 186 that I put a hole in a piston on)

Mild cam, twin strombergs and a 4 inch straight through exhaust...mang mang mang!
