Flat spot at 3000rpm

Hey guys

A friends VL non-turbo straight six has a flat spot when you hit about 3000rpm in the throttle when accelerating. I'm not very cluey on VL motors, give me a 308 any day, but before i start pulling things apart does anyone have any experience as to what the fault could be?

My two guesses are dirty injectors or a problem with the crank angle sensor. If you think it is the crank angle sensor, what would the fault be with it, and what's the remedy?

Thanks in advance

Yeah it could be what you've said, as normally 3k is usually where it starts pulling like a madaxe.
