    Hey guys,

Noticed this since I've purchased the car, and it's my not been an issue, but I'd just like some of your insight into what's actually happening.

In 5th gear, around 1400-1500rpm, say, travelling almost 80kmh, if I put my foot down, the revs don't really seem to correspond with how had I'm pressing the accelerator.
If I keep my foot down it will gradually climb speed, but the engine seems to rev at the same speed. If I push my foot hard enough it'll kick down into 4th, pick up speed, then go back into 5th as it should and rev properly.

It's almost like a 'flat spot' in the transmission. No grinding, weird noises or vibrations, it's just like that specific gear in that specific rev range won't rev above 1500rpm, unless I really give it a boot, sort of an odd feeling where the transmission/engine doesn't 'listen' to my command.

Any idea what this is? Bad programming of the TCM?

    Thanks,

I'm no expert, but maybe the throttle position sensor is out of whack?

V6 or V8? You're trying to move a lot of weight here, a statesman is a big car. If it's the V6 I wouldn't expect much acceleration at that speed unless you really plant your foot hard as that little motor will be working hard to move all that weight. So it could be normal. 1500rpm isn't exactly peak torque area.

I've never driven a statesman, do they have a power button? Any different with power button on? Should kick back a lot easier, you really want it to kick back to accelerate.

Flat spots are usually TPS as mentioned above. I would think your tranny is fine. So probably all normal, but then again I've never driven a large luxury car so what would I know.

Sounds like the torque converter locking up. The converter locks up when you're cruising to save fuel, and because you're not making much torque at 1500RPM (especially with a V6 Alloytec) it tends to bog down and doesn't respond to light acceleration. I had this exact same problem with a 4 speed auto but the problem mostly went away when I changed the diff gears, because the Engine was revving a bit higher at the 80km/h cruising speed where the problem seemed to occur.

Yeah feels like in my old VP when the torque converter would lock.
Anything I can do to change this?

PWR button doesn't seem to effect it, because once it gets to 5th gear at 1500rpm, it has that 'flat spot again'.
Must be torque converter because driving on freeway at high speeds (100kmh+) and it has the same flat feeling. Relieved that it's not a major problem haha
Plus, getting a full transmission service tomorrow which will make me feel a bit better too
