vs executive series II
I have a 96 vs Commodore executive series II, I drive quite long distances to go anywhere as I live in the country and I've just recently it's started to play up with the revs. While I'm driving at 110 km it sits on about 2000 rpm but sometimes it decides it wants to start jumping about up to 2500 then back down to 2000. It could do this once a trip or maybe 5 times in one trip. It can be very unpredictable. To night I did a 400km round trip and did it maybe 5 times on the way down but for the first time it did it almost continuously on the way back. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on what this could be it would be very much appreciated. Thank you

Sounds to me like the Torque converter locking and unlocking. use the link in my sig to check for error codes and report back. could just need a service and filter change.
One last thing, when was the last time you checked the fluid level in the trans?

I'd say rather than the TQ clutch unlocking it would be the transmission shifting back to 3rd as that's about the rev difference between 4th and 3rd gears. TQ clutch only drops the revs a few hundred from 2200 to 2000 approx when it locks.
If it is the former, then it could be a faulty throttle position sensor which is providing bad info to the ECU such as the sensor sending info that the throttle is now wide open which makes the trans drop down a gear.
Good Luck.
