just wondering if anyone has modded their headlight switch so that the fog lights can be turned out without the parkers or taillights?

purely for cosmetic reasons.. with low wattage HID's aimed low that dont dazzle other drivers

I've found the pin on the switch, which brings those lights on, if you ground it. So I could run a wire from it to ground with a toggle switch but would prefer to not have an extra switch

    Thanks in advance

Yes, I modded mine so I could have driving lights.. I basically hacked the pcb to suit my needs.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for that. Can you possibly elaborate on how you did it please?
I know it's a bit hard to explain without looking at the switch
    you prized the switch apart?
    extended the brass-looking contact strip?
or soldered on a connecting wire somewhere?

    cheers

You are talking ten years ago.. I do recall a total disassembly starting with the knob but the details do elude me. I'm sure once you start pulling it down you'll see how it works and make the necessary modifications.

So you didn't manage to work it out? Where are you located? PM If concerned with privacy.

    Hi Dave,

It's doing my head in. I've pulled the swicth apart and studied the pcb.
I've got a spare swicth out of the car to experiment with.
There are 10 pins (9 with wires). Earthing pin no. 6 turns the fogs on
One side of the pcb seems to be the fogs on-off contact while the other side of it has the other lights contacts
Just can't see how the earth is only possible when parks or HL are on
    Am in Carrum Downs area

    Cheers,
    Ed

As I said I modded mine so I could have it as high beam switch for my driving lights. If you're keen I can pop over tonight (17:00) as I'll be in Langwarrin. At worse I'll pull my switch out and apart to see what I did years ago?

Right I pulled the switch apart and noticed a crucial thing.. The PCB falls short of conductive material for your intended purpose. As a note, I didn't realise or did at the time that as mod was for driving lights being triggered off the high beams so there was no concern. Back to it, contact on one side starts at the parkers (associated to pin 9), the other side seems to be ok (pin 6). Still with a conductive pen the addition material could be made/applied. I would though like to see a further mod to the PCB by breaking contact between parkers to headlight but reinstated when set to auto with the addition of a relay to isolate the new DRL circuit so it can switch between the two. You just have to remember it's all NEG switched.

I assume you've mannaged to pull the switch assembly apart to have a look see for yourself?

yeah I've pulled it all apart and can see that one side of the pcb (that nearest engine) seems to be the fog on-off
The other side is off - parkers - headlights - auto
Earthing pin 6 turns fogs on
    That's as far I get

I assume you read that without a bit of work it won't be suitable for switching your DRL's. Looks like you should grab/redirect the neg tigger to the fog relay and create your own circuit that'll work off the ignition with Parker light/headlight isolation.

Just as well. Don't need another clown with HIDs on all the time blinding other drivers anyway.
