With the cost of diesel in Australia being ridiculously (and un-necessarily) high, they'd be better off with a supercharged and turbocharged petrol 4 cyl.
I doubt it, as Rufys says, diesel is waaaaay to expensive to justify. Personally I'd be all over the LPG variant, were I buying a Falcon. My next Commodore will be LPG.
Exactly. Diesel is ridiculously high for what is essentially a by product of petrol production. Also, isnt there already enough cars/hatches on our roads that sound like Landcruisers haha
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a turbo petrol engine, isn't it. The D in GTDi stands for direct injection, not diesel.
I hate diesels engines in cars - on paper they look impressive, but always seem disappointing (power wise) when you drive them. I'd like to see some real road tests to back the power claims. But having said that, diesels are selling well in Europe and Australia seems to follow Europe's trends. And they do seem to be taking off in Australia. So maybe not such a bad move by Ford, they are tapping into a market they haven't got yet. And it seems to compare well (specs wise) to other Euro diesel engines. Holden has been talking about a diesel Commodore for several years now. As long as it remains as an alternative to petrol powered Commodores, then I have no issues with it.
Gasoline Turbo Direct Injection to be exact. No idea where the idea of diesel came from but the article is deffinatly about a petrol 4.
i had a 1.9ltr turbo diesel Skoda fabia in england. used to get 500 Miles to the tank and would outrun the supercharged minis.
Judging by the amount of diesel VW's and BMW's running around then it can't be a bad thing. Diesel at my local servos is either the same price or only a few cents more expensive than unleaded. Been driving turbo diesels on site for years, wouldn't have any problem getting one personally.
not really. the petrol minis were only slightly more powerful than the fabia, but a fair whack heavier. think it was 90kw for the fabia and around 108 for the mini, but may have my facts wrong. just sayin' that a smaller diesel engine was able to keep pace with a larger petrol engine.
Last time I went for fuel 98oct diesel was cheaper, not sure why people think its so much more higher than fuel we get.
but i will bet as soon as more people will get the lpg version the price of lpg rise, like the way more diesel cars became popular the price started to creep up.
