Ok I have a mate who is trying to convince me that his stock ED XR6 will beat a stock ED XR8, his ED XR6 is 161kw, the xr8s r 165kw

    xr6
    161kw at 4600rpm
    365nm at 3650rpm

    xr8
    165kw at 4500rpm
    388Nm at 3000rpm

so the xr8 produces more/equal power at less rpm, so how can an xr6 possibly be faster

HOWEVER his arguement is the fact that the xr6 is 50kg lighter..

are theyre any other factors at play here, im really struggling to understand? any thoughts PLEASE

The XR6 is quicker than the XR8, was the case for years. The ED Falcon 6 is a damned machine when turboed...Wayne Dyson did one back in around 95...what a weapon.

Bit like what Ford has done now with the Turbo 6 and Boss V8. Why do they bother with the V8 when the Turbo 6 kills it. V8 heavier slower sounds mint, But goes pretty slow.

i have seen a EF XR6 manual in stock form apart from cat back kill mild holden 5lts, i mean kill. it was an absolute weapon, and a freak. The only XR8 of the same era that beat him was one with NOS. even then it wasnt convincing.

turbo the 6, as minux said, they are weapons when you add a snail, the I^ respond unbelieveably well to forced induction. if i went back to a 6, i wouldnt look any further than a XR6T.

Well the xr6 has 3.45 and 3.23 1st gear and the xr8 i think has 3.27 and 2.95 first gear.

But the EF (or any EA - EL) XR6 had to be manual :) It was essential. The first gear ratios on those auto slushboxes destroyed any off-the-line performance those cars had.

And yes OP, the XR6 will maul the XR8. Ford 8s have never been particularly potent, and that remains the case today for the most part.

The only good early XR8's are the later AUs which got muuuch better heads and manifold and a heap more power. The early NA XR6's go good, beat a 5 litre..... it would want to be a shiiiiiiit 5 litre but they do allright in manual form (lowish 15's on the 1/4 mile) no chance at a 14 tho and a healthy 5 liter exec even an auto will run high 14's 100% stock

i had a au xr6 for a while.. and i will admit.. it kicks my present vy s pack ass off the line. lsd as standard probably helps.. but the au just had more get up and go.... mind you i swear the au xr6 was heaps better performance wise then the ba xr6. which i think suffered from the same weight problems as the vy does.

ive got the fg xr6t sedan, the thing is a monster, you press go and bingo power, it's there, it's fast it's happening, just wish there were places i could play with it properly, can only handle so much of the drags.
