Yes do you think that I don't know that they make cars understeer for a reason, it's for retards you know, people who are hopeless drivers who don't know how to control a car.

It's to do with ignorance of the Australian people in general, the political twerps go on about speed kills BS, I say ignorance is the biggest factor, not a deranged mantra that speed kills truly that is a blind ignorant statement at best, that truly goes no where but is only truly spun to propping up the coffers.
Speed can be a factor and surely don't drive like a twerp, but many crashes has noting to do with exceeding the posted limit.
I am all for people learning how to control a car, but the governments sure the hell are not, in fact they bag such training because they say it will create hoons.

Now Peter Hannenberger came up with the RTS, it was a safety program designed to help people get out of trouble and that what it truly was all about and he shows Bill Tuckey what a car must do, in Wheels oct 1978 you can read what he is truly on about, poor old Bill is blown away and has no idea, he argues claims about shock absorbers but Peter knows it's all about geometry and that dampers only control the function of controlling that geometry's speed rate. so that if the geometry is bad shocks will not trump bad geometry.
Geometry is first and foremost, shocks are a control of that geometry damping progression at work function.
The VB was a very well balanced car you could hang the tail out with predictable fully control able oversteer, old mate use to go down on the footy oval and cut loose with perfectly controlled slides and never got out of control. ha and he did it for free.

Regardless of what you say above, car manufacturers make cars that are safe for the masses, the 95% of drivers who never really exceed the speed limit by any great margin or try to drive around corners like Brocky did. There is also really not much point comparing cars from 30 years ago with cars from today. Tyres, suspension, brakes, chassis have all improved a thousand fold and completely changed what is possible without killing yourself. Just because a car is capable doesn't mean you should be doing it on the open road. I'm sure we have all done stupid **** when we were young, dumb and full of ....... but that doesn't make it right. I drive cars that are capable of reaching speeds well over 200km/h every day but TBH I wouldn't attempt that **** on a public street these days as there are just to many things that can go wrong and way to many other cars around to even consider doing something like that. Many moons ago I would be coming home in the middle of the night and you would be lucky to see another motorist on the road, today you have traffic at all times of the day and night.

So you took the bait? Like I said earlier, save the politics for the political thread and keep the religious ramblings to a minimum and you'll have a long happy life as a forum member.

I guess it takes a skilled driver to cut circles on a well manicured footy oval, congratulations to your mate!

Typical you don't truly know what you are talking about, 30 years ago = 1987, tyres have not improved from then, suspension well no they have not really in some they are nothing to wright home about, go look at any 928 Porsche setup or look at a Peugeot 306 well no nothing comes close nowadays.

Brakes well ABS and it's not without it's down sides as well did you know that.

Look mate I have driven with P Brock and he came into corners very conservatively not radically at all and that's what made him the king of the mountain.

Some people drive over 200KM/H everyday, I know them it's their job.

It was not well manicured oval not everyone lives in the city you know and no one complained about it back then.

I agree nowadays the roads are far more as you say, but common sense has a long way to go on the roads nowadays, they may not be speeding by much, but they do stupid things where one should surely not mess around being a fool, the ignorance is unbelievable but the gov do not point out such things as being a big problem.
Get the ignorant problems sorted and the amount of smashes will fall.
