The huge 2mm gap would definitely be an issue. That and the wrong plugs.

Decicrate, I have put the BPR6E 13 back in.

Drewie, the new plugs and leads fixed. But I'm still checking the memcal as my fuel use is still out of whack.

its not a 2mm gap its a 1.5mm gap, which although bigger than it should be is still ok. platinums should never be gapped, it kills the anode. either replace them or be happy with a 1.5mm gap.

those plugs are fine, the one black plug is bad though, id guess a leaky stem seal. its not carbon as carbon doesnt generally clag like that, more like a fine covering of soot, thats oil gunk. id rule out PCV cos' its only that one plug affected and pcv would make them all clag.

edit* i take that back, the electrodes are fked:

those have done far more than 30,000kms

So, not being a spark plug genius, whats wrong with them? Personally, I'd probably have cleaned them and shoved them back in.... lucky I'm not a mechanic eh? lol

the electrode (the bendy bit on the end) gets eaten away eventually. you can see this mostly on plug 2. the electrodes are the same width from the base to the tip, but on plug 2 the tip is actually a little pointy. id need to see it IRL to make sure its not a PC illusion, but it looks fairly chewed out.

as far as the colour goes, they all look like a really nice burn to me, nice tan colour, no white spots from lean condition, no buildup from being too cold. just that one **** plug from oil getting in somehow.

But aren't platinums and all that start manufactured with a pointy electrode? I know mine for my LS1 and my Prado all had them.

nah the width... they are pointy as in: they have little points in them, but the width of the steel bit thats bent.... fk im describing this badly. annnyway, this is a carbon fouled plug of fluffy:

note, carbon fouling will only ever get to this stage, then it will stop working so the deposits also stop. oil will continue to build up deposits because the electrode and anode will continue to get hot enough to burn it off the very tip. itll keep building till the oil stops the plug from working completely, then itll fail.

so in this pic you can see that the tip is the same width as the base....
