had replaced the fuel pump prior to covid, Used the rubber gasket on the pump but it didnt seal well. car has sat around doing nothing for probably a year.

finally pulled the pump out to replace the seal with a cork one, and found that the hose had turned to mush and the new pump was shot, as was the tank on further inspection. there was a shortage on submersible fuel hose at the time, and the piece that I was given as suitable, was in fact unsuitable.

rust, rubber sludge, and who knows what else after 30yrs had left it pretty rank.

grabbed a KBS tank kit, 3 step clean rust treat & coat. has come up a bit better at least.

before photos - rust & sludge

inside the tank after - I missed some with the coating material on the plastic swirl pot, but I didnt want to cut the tank open & reseal, so I did the kit leaving the swirl pot inside.

pretty satisfying to pressure wash off ngl

Tank is sitting in the boot of the car now while I find all of the hoses to replace. Every tank related hose has perished, or died when I pulled the tank out.

sitting here on 3 sigs as found one is cracked, with a souvenir of my first tip-in damaging the rear quarter.

Interior has good seats, will need some attention on the trims

Too many gauge adjustments and too much sun. I do have another blue crash pad to swap it out with, but I think that task needs holidays from work to achieve :D

Door handles have UV? Damage and this white surface. Might try a rub back otherwise swap out for some better condition items.

Boot full of tank & some hoses, waiting on some more hoses and some hoist time so can refit tank

Also need the bars off - can’t recall what kind of damage is under the drive rear quarter from the tip-in incident.

Couple weekends ago I actually got around to removing the AREO kit from a VN that I collected some time ago.
mixed feelings on if the VP should get the kit - its a 5L and the kit will fit, but its not a VN, and its not imperial blue.
I could keep trying for a VN so I can create a Blue VN AREO (always been on my list) but with current stock and the market I will end up paying ridiculous amounts for a mang, and do an engine swap.

there was a small handful ofHDT VP Aeros made, and they are the exact same kit/specs as the VN variant so its not a complete barstardisation of the model.

Fuel tank back in finally.

new pump
new filter
new hoses & clamps throughout

refit the tank and fired up, good to hear it running again. The miss the was present before the tank came out is still there but much improved since cleaning the tank out. Injector cleaner to be run through, should clear up the rest.

small shed skid to celebrate

coolant temp error code has just popped up. Adding new sensor to the shopping list.
