Ok i want to know when putting your strut back in on a VN where the 3 bolts go through the top to dothe strut up there is an extra hole does this hole have to be lined up with the hole thats in the top off the strut where the 3 bolts are [the thing that spins around].Also when i was doing the bottom nut up that go's through bottom of the strut.I think it's a bottom ball joint? anyway the nut would go on half way then the whole thing would just spin around when trying to do it up.Well i finaly got it done up i just slowly done it up with the rattle gun buy just giving the trigger alittle tap,tap and slowly got it done up.Anyway today i noticed abit of a clunking noise on that side so i jacked the car up and when i pushed on the side of the strut it moved a little bit proberly acouple of mm could this be caused buy this bottom bolt spinning around and not being able to do it up properly? as i said i got it done up but it might need alittle more i dont know.Anyway is that the bottom ball joint that i was speaking about and how do you remove them on the VN's? Ithink this could be the problem as the right side strut is perfect.

did you remember to put the washer on the bottom side of your strut hats??? cos when they arent done up with the washer it gives the bearings clearance to move up and down, try removing the cap and retightening the nut BY HAND not with a rattle gun

Yeah! i'll check the strut hat tommorrow the movement actually seems to come from the shocker actually i just went back out and checked and yeah! it feels like there is a little bit of movement with the shocker inside the strut.

to do up the lower control arm ball joint tight put a jack under the arm where the ball joint is then jack up until a lot of weight is on it and it will do up tight without a air tool :D.

As beefcream said mine makes an awfull clunking noise so i am going to have a look at it tommorrow as when i put my new springs and shockers in it was alright for a couple of days.So if it is that nut i'm gonna put some locktite on it also i'll put a jack under the lower ball joint to make sure it's tight enough but thats what i did wen i done it up if i remmember correctly. But i'll let you all know how i go.
