Yeah I have instant fuel display but I don't think its going to make a difference because of the short distances the car travels. There is no solution other than to walk the kids to school. Maybe use the car for longer distances on the weekend for motor preservation.

So if you have real-time display, what does it read when cruising at say, 80kmh?

So your car doesn't have a 'live' real-time fuel consumption display?

Only Berlina, Calais & Statesmans have the full trip computer dash with the live display.

I used to get 13/14 lt in my VZ Berlina, @ around 30/40km/h ave speed, re-set after every fill, included school runs, 25-30min trips to work.
On a trip/freeway run got down to 8-9

Maybe they have it as a standard readily accessible function but in the others it is accessed by pressing and holding the Mode and Set buttons then turning on the ignition. You then cycle through the various readouts, one of which is instantaneous fuel flow in litres per hour, using the Mode button and when you want to go back to the normal readout, press the Set button or it will go back to normal when next you turn the ignition on.

The question is, how many Ks do you get out of a full tank?? at your rate you will get about 300 Ks. I suggest you fill up to the top and then drive it 250 Ks and fill again, then divide the Ks with the amount of litres and see what you get, you might find that the computer is inaccurate or you have a hole in the tank.

Well I managed to change the PCV hose, it was in a terrible condition, especially that 90 degree bend at the throttle body.

I took it for a bit of a cruise to get my average speed up and as it was slowly going up, the consumption was slowly coming down.

Instead of an average speed of 14.3 km/hr for a consumption of 23 L/100 km, I got it to an average speed of 19.4 km/hr with a consumption of 17.4 L/100 km.

So there you go, I learnt something today. Don't know how I can solve the problem other than take the car for a cruise on the weekend.

Sounds like you have your answer right there 17l/ 100 @19 Km/h, if you were averaging say 30 km/h it would be better again and then that figure doesn't sound abnormal. I had a SIDI SV6 and it would average about 12.7l/ 100km at about 30km/h average, a non SIDI I would expect a little more, certainly I used to average about 15l/ 100Km with my 3.8 VY wagon with city commute and traffic so I suspect given the driving conditions as bad as it sounds, there is probably no particular problem there. Short trips are very bad for your fuel consumption, add in very slow average speed and it goes from bad to worse.
