I've got a 96 VS Commodore Sedan with "S Pack" and I only manage to get about 300km (distance) max on a full tank of 98 Octane. Is this normal or should I get it looked at?? - Thanks
City driving you should be getting anything from 350 to 420(that's what I get depending on how I drive), there's no way a VS would get 500 Ks out of a full tank of city driving unless there's alot of highway dirving. You should average 12 - 14L/100ks. Some cars get less but most are about that.
my vs can get anywhere from 420km (in-city driving) to 550km (highway driving) if i don't hammer it. normal figures are about 380-400 city and 520-540 hwy. i have found mine to be an awesome car all round, and the fuel is just as good. anyway, thats just an idea of how many km's i get out of mine (i service it every 5000 km myself) cheers
General agreement I would agree that around 400 for town driving, but I regularly get over 600 on the open road. Sydney to the Sunshine Coast in the previous school holidays (loaded to the roof with kids and gear and averaging 88 KPH) went from Bulladelah to Brisbane (just over 700 km) and the low fuel light was on for the last 30 km. Around 36 MPG as usual. Mine is a manual though.
I only get 300km per tank in my VS, but mine are all short trips, no highway driving, just too school and back home, too work and back home. Then i go to friends places etc and odd drive to the shops. I prob drive it pretty hard but not always.
VS Economy I used to get 500 ish round town and 700 ish highway out of my old Wagon. It was a VS 6 auto. Have you tried all the usual stuff to fix it? Check filters? Air and fuel, replaced if necessary? You might want to check your fuel lines for leaks, also the evapourate hoses on the tank, may be loosing fuel through that. Just a couple ideas for ya neway. Cheers
I had the same problem with my VS Exec V6 and I found that the Oxygen Sensors on each exaust manifold were faulty. I Replaced them and now on the open road i get about 630 to 650kms out of a tank. I used to get about 350kms. You might want to watch for an engine light that comes on for a while then goes away. If this happens it is definatly the oxygen sensors.
