Does anyone know why my 02 Holden VX has such bad fuel efficiency ? I was told that I can get 350-400km on a tank but I only get 200. When I switch the car off the tank will be at half then when you get up in the morning the gauge reads it being on the last quarter and it doesn’t go back up. What do I need to replace ?

when you fill up from near enough to empty, how much fuel does it take
if less than 60 litres
the pump/sender is a common part to wear on these
if more than 60 litres, O2 sensors , tps or heavy right foot

VX should be a 75 litre tank.

It's a common fault that the sender reads faulty. Ours reads empty at about 60 litres.

Fuel usage still sounds excessive. Start with the basic service items, plugs, leads, filters and fluids. Then clean the MAF and make sure the engine is coming up to full operating temp.

Ohh my VX is a 50L tank, I serviced the car about 2 months ago and replaced the oils, fluids, spark plugs and other things, but I’m not sure why the fuel is so bad, it has been bad for awhile now nearly 1 year, it costs me $70 in fuel per week and I have to fill up twice for its $140. If you could suggest what I could do to fix it would be much appreciated

O2 sensors would be next on my list, after cleaning the MAF and throttle body.

IMHO, it would be worth purchasing an Envious Customs scan tool and running some diagnostics.

Our VX says 640km range when we fill it. About 60 litres.

But that is dreaming.

You have to write down the odometer reading (photograph with phone) when you fill it until the bowser does the first click. Important that you go back to the same bowser and fill it up to the first click next time. Now take another photo of odometer and compare to the litres recorded on your fuel station receipt.

PS, Is it possible that you have a son who is quietly stealing your fuel for his motorbike?

I agree. 75 litre tank, unless it been changed. Have you ever ran it empty?
Get your jerry can fill it, now go drive the car until it runs out. Put contents of jerry in car, then fill your tank up. This will give a good indication of tank size.
