VX SS (Original owner).
I don't think the gauges in the VX are that accurate, from what I have read the series 2's are the worst, I don't use my VX SS much so to keep the fuel fresh I throw in $50 at a time, lasts a few weeks or more, I can have just below 1/4 of a tank then throw in $50 which does not buy much and the gauge says I have a good solid 3/4 of a tank, so there must be heaps more fuel in mine even when it is showing maybe an 1/8 of a tank. I also notice on a long trip if I fill it right up, it takes a long time for the fuel gauge to drop.

And mine definitely has a 75 litre tank.

O2 sensors would be next on my list, after cleaning the MAF and throttle body.
Do you reckon I should replace the fuel sender, fuel sensor and the pump ? This should fix the fuel consumption issue right or nah

Well probably preventative maintenance if you replace the pump because if it's done 180-200k on the original pump it most likely won't be long before it fails and leaves you stranded. As for improving economy by replacing the sender and pump it is likely to make no difference.

quality fuel pumps come as a sender/pump assembly
it will not affect your fuel economy,
but it will read accurate so you will need to fill up less often
look at O2 sensors, maf sensor, tps
is it v6 v8, manual auto

It’s a v6 auto, it has had the problem for a while, and also when the gauge goes below half it goes staring to below the last quarter, so ifk what’s going on

I agree. 75 litre tank, unless it been changed. Have you ever ran it empty?
Get your jerry can fill it, now go drive the car until it runs out. Put contents of jerry in car, then fill your tank up. This will give a good indication of tank size.
Will try it out cheers mate

$50 for a few weeks is good as, wish my car could do that, I put $70 which is full tank every week and with the fuel issue I have to put t in twice so 140-160 depending on fuel prices

when you fill up from near enough to empty, how much fuel does it take
if less than 60 litres
the pump/sender is a common part to wear on these
if more than 60 litres, O2 sensors , tps or heavy right foot
This is what it reads now I haven’t even gone far and it’s here now

Our VX says 640km range when we fill it. About 60 litres.

But that is dreaming.

You have to write down the odometer reading (photograph with phone) when you fill it until the bowser does the first click. Important that you go back to the same bowser and fill it up to the first click next time. Now take another photo of odometer and compare to the litres recorded on your fuel station receipt.

PS, Is it possible that you have a son who is quietly stealing your fuel for his motorbike?

Just because the gauge says it's empty doesn't mean it actually is if it only takes 50 litres.

Does the engine come up to operating temp on the dash gauge?
