Fuel Gage not working

Hey guys ive got a VU V6 commodore and the fuel gage is not working it will sometimes not work at all then sometimes it will just read the wrong level does anyone know what the issue could be?

Yes. It's a VT-VZ fuel gauge. They're purely decorative.
