Hoping someone can help.
I have a intermittent starting problem with my VZ Commodore 3.6 Auto, where the starter is inhibited.
This occures after the fuel gauge needle drops from an actual reading to wrongly empty. It usually occures after being stopped on a slope.
The warning system produces the following messages: Very Low Fuel; Fuel Guage Error; Contact Dealer; Service Soon; TRAC OFF;Distance to Empty = 0; Remaining = 10ltr.

When this happens I turn the ignition & start to on but there is no start, as instructed by NRMA I remove then bridge the Starter Relay with a wire, this fires the starter motor, I then return the relay to its slot & close the bonnet.

Over the last three months I have bridged relay my self 7 times, had NRMA attend & restart 3 times, taken it to Auto Elec twice, Holden service once. Appart from NRMA none of these had problem occure while they had the vehicle for days and did not fix the problem. Also the gear selector inhibitor & two relays have been replaced & NRMA tested battery each time for OK.

Can anyone offer advise on what is wrong & how to fix it?

Possible ECU failure, in the tropics this is very common

Had the same problem and it was the ecu. What needs to be done is when the car is faulting, a scan tool connected to perform an ecu presence check. This allows the scan tool to connect to all the computers in the car, if it can't connect to a computer then that's the culprit. It could also be a bcm problem, but I've heard most of the time it's the ecu. No doubt because of the location of it, it constantly heats and cools which is no good for any computer device.

Thanks for the reply, Further question - What did you have to do to fix your ECU & how much?
Further note - today I renoved then replaced the fuse for the ECU/BCM 10amp this allowed the car to start without the relay jumper wire.
