Nothing :'(
This is probably the most common fault I've come across with holdens. Alot of people that I know who own a VS to VY have some sort of problem regarding thier fuel gauges. In my VT Calais, my fuel gauge doesnt give me an accurate reading, and sometimes fluctuates up to half a tank within the space of half an hour.
My dad has a VY SS Sedan and about 2 years after he baught it, the fuel gauge would show that he had a quarter of a tank left, and then run out of petrol. Took it to Holden and they said that for some reason it had the calibration of a VY Wagon?? 6 months after getting it "fixed", it happend again, took it back to holden and they "fixed" it again. Last saturday he ran out of petrol when the gauge was showing just over quarter of a tank. I'd say about half the people I know with VY's have had the same problem... Is it really that common? And what is it? Because the holden dealer/service center near my place have no clue (they're pretty hopeless)

fuel gauge

I brought my vy brand new in 2003 and it was back to holden 3 times in the first year to recalibrate the fuel gauge by just pluging in the computer and I think one of those times there was a recall on them but I have not had any trouble since

I've been told, though not sure if its true, theres apparently a problem with mating the bosch sender unit with the vdo gauges.:whistling
The two dont like each other very much.
Like I say, not sure if thats true but you never know.
And that didnt help to fix your problem, sorry

VYII SS Ute
Don't get me started on this issue.....

After 3 years I've given up on it.

I bought my VYII SS Ute brand new. At the 1500km service I told the Holden Service Centre that the fuel gauge seems to linger on full for a long time then suddenly drop. I was told that this was the first they had ever heard of such a problem and they would look into it. Apparently a recalibration was done. I couldn't see any difference.

Took it back to them 2 months later, recalibrated again. This time I run out of petrol with the fuel gauge showing 1/4 tank.

Rang the Holden Service Centre again and blasted the **** out of them, bought the car back in, flashed the software back to the original and was told that a software update was due in 6 months, come back then and all problems will be solved.

Go back after 6 months, get the new software, still not perfect but better. It just evens out the top half of the guage travel a bit.

I don't get it. I had a 1977 Kingswood before I bought the ute and I could tell you down to the litre how much fuel it would take to fill the tank and how much further I would get before I would run it dry just by looking at the fuel guage. 2003 model, may as well not have a fuel guage.

Thats my whine for the day...

I have never had any problems with mine. I have had a VT and have a VY now. I always fill up full and run it to empty. I rely on the DTE and it hasn't failed me. Fuel guage drops slowly as fuel is used with no issues. Same with the VT I used to have. No problems with it either. and I haven't run out of fuel yet!!! ;)

VY SS A4
Mine has played up but strangely it has only done it once or twice as far as I recall. Both times was when I had about 1/4 of a tank left so I filled up. The gauge only went up to 3/4 then over the next 10km it slowly creeped up to full. Hasn't played up for ages though.

vy ss commodore 5.7ltr
mine this week brought on the low fuel warning light on my vyss with just under 400km of driving and better fuel economy on the dash than normal, i filled it up and it took less fuel (55ltrs) than normal (57-60ltrs) and the fuel light normaly doesn't come on and i have more kays on the clock, i'm going to monotir it over the next couple of weeks and c what happens as it shouldn't have come on for the amount of fuel i put in compared to normal, and its never come on b4 and iv run it down further than when it did come on.

2002 VX S 3.8
I have just got a VX series 2, and i think my fuel gage is ****ed.

When i got the car it said it had half a tank, after 100kms, it said it had 1/8th of a tank, it dropped like 1/4 a tank in 5 mins when just ideling! so i paniced, thought i had a leak or somthing, cheacked, but i didnt, so i went and filled her up and it only took 38 liters even thought its a 75 liter tank, and even then the fuel gauge showed it was about 1/16 away from a full tank. So ive driven it for another 300km and its back at 1/8th of a tank, it dropping from half to 1/8th in about 75km's.

After just buying this car im pretty much broke, should i take it to holden to get it looked at, or should i just levave it. How much would taking it to holden cost?

Ive also noticed that the gauge drops very unevenly.
