My VT V6 Acclaim Wagon has an unusual trick. Every time I fill it up, the fuel warning light comes on and my distance to empty goes "- - -". Anyone seen this before or know what it is? What causes it? Not a severe problem, I'm just curious.

My VT Berlina Sedan did it once before and I had a theory about it, I could be wrong as I haven't done much research into it but the VT's fuel gauge varies depending on how you've recently been driving along with your "Distance to Empty" on the dash, so the one time it happend to be I put in about $20 of gas and as I was driving out of the servo I gave it the beans which put the instant fuel usage to around 50L/100ks and I imagine the only recent driving data that the computer had was me starting then going full throttle so it assumed thats how I was driving and altered the fuel gauge and distance to empty accordingly.

Sorry about that big reply but thats my thought on it

Possibly something along those lines but both the analogue fuel guage and the digital tell me I have no fuel when I have just filled up. Painful experience for the wallet too. Makes me think about applying for finance.

does ur needle flat line also wen the DTE is gone? mine does this but not always, more so wen i run the tank until the fuel light comes on and then fill up full. but after ive used a tiny bit of fuel the needle jumps back 2 life and the fuel light goes off and my DTE also comes back. Id say its just the sender unit on its way but saying that its been like that over a year or so now LOL its not really a big issue as it always comes back after driving roughly 50kms.
