Hey guys just wondering if any of you can shed some light on this?

Over the weekend i drove from Newcastle to sydney and then from sydney back to newcastle.

When i filled up in newcastle it cost me $1.82/ltr for shell98 VPower , however for vpower in sydney on the way back home i took notice and most of the petrol stations down there and they were selling it for $1.64/ltr

Why is it justifiable that we here in newcastle are paying an extra 18c per litre as compared to the cheaper pricing in Sydney? I can understand maybe a 5c rise at the most...but 18c seems a little bit greedy and ridiculous.

It makes no sense to me at all, i thought Sydney being a big city that it is (and an expensive one to live in at that) that it would infact be more expensive?

It seems on my travels over the last few months that the further away you are from a capital city, you can pay up to 25c/ltr more?

Can anyone make sense of this??

You've been driving for how long now and only just noticed this? Don't go to broken hill...

It's usually put down to transport costs and while I can see how that affects it to a certain extent, I think there is a little more to it..

There are local and regional price cycles, perhaps if you have had low sales you might drop the price to shift fuel and to encourage punters to come in and buy $3.50 snicker bars and $23 packs of smokes.....

Just work out what it costs for a litre of bottled water and then thank christ your engine doesn't run on the stuff.

you get used to it in a way.
whats to say in Sydney it was at a low and at Newcastle it was at a higher point in prices as they may have different cycles or whatever they call them.

its kinda funny though.
in Melbourne itll be say $1.40 (random numbers being used)
head up the hume and price goes up a few cents. get to middle of nowhere on the hume (new Seymour, Caltex if I remember right), same price as Melbourne :p
continue on to holiday location up the Murray and its a fair bit more.

You guys shouldn't complain. 95Ron fuel was $2.18 when I filled up yesterday and we don't get these fuel price cycles either, it's always expensive....
