fuel pump removal

hi all, i dropped my tank, got my fuel sender unit out and now I'm stuck LOL. how do i get the pump out with out damaging the sender unit. is there a special way or will the pump just pull straight up? sorry for the noob question Ive been searching but i cant find anything on fuel pump removal
