A while ago when my partner was towing a trailer we drove over a raised bit of ground in the middle of the road and then we heard a scrape and not a very nice sounding one at. Then on the corner we took after that, the trailer came off (not sure why i think the people that set up the trailer didnt hook it on right) I think it was kept on by the chains or somthing not sure i wasnt the one out of the car to look straight away i am just guessing but when i did hope out i notice warm air seemed to be blowing out from under that car and also a noise at the rear end, sort of like the sound of air escaping and im not sure if the noise had been happening for a while or not but im guessing it wasnt because i normally notice when the car changes in some way.

But anyway getting to the point (just wanted to explain how i started hearing the noise) we had a mates friend friend look at the car to figure out what the noise was who is meant to be a mechanic and he said it was the fuel pump and their probably is a small hole in it that in time will get bigger.

He also suggest putting small amounts of fuel in it if we where to continue driving it around. We have driving beenit around alot actually before picking up a new car but it hasnt really gotten louder or not noticably louder. the car is now resting in the back yard.

He said it would cost around 600 to fix and he may of said something about replaing the whole fuel tank.

    Does this sound about right?

Also im thinking about fixing it myself good idea? sould i be buying a newfuel tank or just replacing the fuel pump. What are the costs involved.

hey mate ..if the tank leaks fuel and the tank is dinted?? i would replace both, new or used up to you .. is the 6oo for new tank and new pump 100% do u know ??? if so that doesnt seem tooo bad .. but there not that hard to replace .. if it was me .. i would replace the tank (second hand and clean it or have it cleaned) and buy a new fuel pump .. altogether youd be looking at about 150 200 for a new pump and second hand tank would just depend where you get the tank and pump from .. hope this helps ya mate :)

he basically said you need a new tank try the wreckers they sometimes have really good stuff and get the tanked cleaned out before you use it cause the get a lot of **** at the bottom of the tank and buy a brand new fuel pump

Sounds like you put a hole in your exhaust. Don't know how a fuel pump gets a hole in it though, do you mean the tank? Any hole would probably be on the bottom so even filling it with small amounts of fuel would it would leak out.
Get under th car yourself and check the exhaust and fuel tank and see if there is any damage, dents and or holes.
If it's the fuel tank I got a good 2nd hand one from Commwreck in Sydney for $70, it was pretty good, no rust and only 1 small ding and I'd be buying a brand new genuine fuel pump and gasket for it and also replacing all the breather hoses and filler neck to tank hose with new ones and a new filter as well.

i am led to believe the fuel pump gaskets come with the pumps .. correct me if im wrong .. genuine might be different, not 100% sure when it comes to genuine mate :). as for the hole im thinking he means on the side of it either near the exh or the other side .. but either wya it would still leak .. but i would check it out as wortus said mate .. you dont want to be over spending if there is really no need
