G'day. I drive a Series II VP Calais, with the 63 litre tank. I've been noticing that when I'm running a little low on fuel (usually around 8 litres or less), my engine starts hesitating on acceleration, especially when I pull hard, or take off up hill. Does this happen to everyone (ie, is it something that this tank and fuel pump just does), or is there something wrong somewhere? If it is a normal problem, has anyone tried to correct it? Cheers guys.
from what i understand the fuel pump starts pumpin air rated fuel and you dont get as much fuel into the cylinder
Fuel injected cars should never be run below 1/4 of a tank because the pump uses fuel to cool itself and should be submerged at all times. There is no problem with it you just shouldnt run it with such a small amount of fuel in it.
Has your tank got any dents in it at all? My tank runs out before red it's got a nasty dint. My mates old VR berlina ran out with 30km left it also had a large dint in the bottom, Could be that?.
Mine has some big dents in it, and ive run mine on the red line and didnt run out(on the first drive to the servo after getting it registered). If the dent is directly under the float it will be a problem but if its not it will displace the same amount of fuel to push the float upward, the fuel guage will go down quicker but should still read nil when there is nil fuel.
Only works for people who have normal tanks but, And still noone on JC can work out what size tank i have, It's not 63 it's not 80. Runs miles over the full when filled and cuts off before red. It's larger then the stock executives but smaller then the V8's.
There's more than 2 tank sizes man! I was reading about this not long ago with all the option code stuff
I don't have any problems running mine right down to an indicated empty, but I think my guage mis-reads as I can only ever get about 55 litres in when I fill up.
