My car is covered with things like minor scratches, chips, surface rust, and it is starting to affect the look of the paint from a distance.

I've run several clay bars over it and it just seems to make the scratches nice and shiny. Is it possible to first sand down the scratches and grind the rust out, then take it to a place to slap some factory paint on? Seeing as after I got stuck into all the defects, there would'nt be much paint left.

Does anyone know of a place in Melbourne that could do this for a reasonable price? As I can do the prep myself.

Thanks,
Tom.

Cool, I'll look them up and get a quote.

I'd just be paying for paint and labour right?

yes but if the bonnet has heaps of stone chips it will need paint stripping and the bumper will need to be sanded real well and primed edge to edge.
guards can be primed to where the stone chips end etc.
all this takes time which = money

I was thinking of putting a new bumper on anyway, the bonnet is covered in touch up paint from the previous owner and the bodywork is mainly scratched from where the cat tried to jump up, nearly fell, and made up the traction with her claws. So theres a fair bit that needs taking back and fresh paint applied, but I have no idea about anything remotely to do with paint, so i'll leave it with someone.
