Ok... yet another clunking problem that needs to be solved. Driving home from a mates place I stopped at the lights. Upon the lights turning green I put the foot on the accelerater and it doesnt really seem to move to fast. As soon as it got to about 3000 rpm there would be somewhat of a jerk from the rear along with the lovely clunking sound and it would drive perfectly, untill you stopped at the next set of traffic lights and it would occur again. Had two people suggest uni joints may be going going and gone... as well as perhaps the center bearing and ive had someone suggest that it may also be a torque converter issue. Any ideas?
Nah im gonna get under there tomorrow and have a real good look, had a mate from this site come over today and he had a quick look and he said the center bearing looks like its a little worse for wear as well as the uni joints so ill get under there when i can find some ramps that will go under my car. Would the center bearing cause me to crawl at the lights though? My mate/mech is currently on holiday and work is giving me no shifts, great timing.
Torque converter is easy enough to change if you have a spare day and the right tools. Essentially you just drop the transmission down, and then pull the torque converter out Then slide the new one in, spinning it around 'till it clunks three times. Then fill up with fluid and you're set.
does the engine sound like its loading up heaps when you go to take off? could be brakes locking on...
