funny noise from front

hey hope sumbody can help a funny noise started comeing from the front of my vr v6 a few weeks ago when idleing seemed 2 be comeing from power steering pump changed that an still ther so 2day i changed the water pump an yes its still ther it is def 1 of the pullys as when u start the motor with fan belt off no noise an the harm ballancer looks ok just wondering if any1 got any ideas as this is sending me broke changing good parts even tried putting the pully back on pump with put the shim but no go please help

Take off the belt n spin ya pulleys for alterantor, power steer pump an yadda yadda... Til ya find the one thats makin the racket

I got me bet on Alternator bearings.... Does ya batt light com on ever

done that allready an no noise an my batt light dont come on the alt is only about 18months old

so uve started it without the belt n no noise so then i wouldnt be the harmonic, has to be one of the pulleys makein the noise....

Could be the clutch on the ac pulley but i doubt it.....

Do any of the pulleys have a bit of play??

most of the time, its the couple of idler pulleys and tensioner pulley.. with the car running, place a large flat head screwdriver on the bolt thru the pulleys and put ur ear to the end of the screwdriver.. if the bearings nackered u'll hear it.. non genuine pulleys are metal, whereas the genuine ones are plastic. hope this helps

hey tried the screwdriver trick but couldnt pick anything i have a felling that it is the tension pully dont no why i also had that feelling with power sterrting pump then water pump any1 got anyidea how 2 test the tension pully

Fill it with high temp grease that should stop it if its the tension pulley

Nar u dont have to take the whole arm off, u can replace the pulley itself, but the bolt thru the tensioner arm is a LEFT HAND THREAD!!! =) (yes have stripped one myself in the earlier days) u should be able to pick one up from repco, bout $30..
