Hey all,

I re-did all my amp wiring today as i got a nice new sub recently and needed beefier wiring (4ga) for the amp.. Problem is, every time I reconnect the battery, it blows the positive wire fuse to the amp. It's gone through three brand new fuses, a 60A and 2 120A fuses. I've checked the ground, sanded it back more etc. etc. but I just can't figure out the problem. Any ideas? I'll be taking it up to a local auto elec hopefully later this week, but if anyone has any advice or solutions I'd appreciate it greatly.

Cheers.

(I wasn't sure whether to put this in Electrical or Audio, but i figured since it's specific to audio it might go here. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm pretty noob at forums)

sounds like theres a dead short somewhere between the fuse and the amp(if not in the amp itself)

Have checked that you've wired the positive and negative wires the right way around? I know I've done that a couple of times...

Pretty sure it's right but damn, I never actually thought of that! Can that stuff your amp too?

EDIT: I -DID- have the amp wire backwards, epic fail. No wonder the fuses went. Thanks heaps man!

Now to buy a new fuse and hope i haven't killed the amp...

I'm pretty sure the fuses on the amp should have gone first. Mine did, never had to replace one on the cable.

While they were back to front... I'm surprised it blew the fuse.

No chance a screw holding the fuse block down is making contact with the terminals inside?

Actually... Second after thought. Yeah it would blow the fuses sorry if the chassis of the amp is screwed down to something metal.

that's why the fuse is there to protect ya amp so it be fine as long as you didn't run it without the fuse.
