Does anybody know the values of the fusible links in 6cyl VL Commodore?
Is it ok to replace these with a fuse of correct rating?

Probably, better of sticking to the fusible links, the small fuses would start to melt and break down sooner with higher loads, ie say 60Amps for the alt etc.

Check a wiring diagram for correct fusible link rating, these should be mounted close to the battery to provide protection over the whole circuit.

You can probably modify it to use the later type fusible links that plug in, if you got the cable type, see what colour they are and buy the same colour as the colour is the ratered amperage, not to hard to make.

Sorry cant give you specific values on your VL, just make sure you use them as this could be the difference between your car burning down or not.

I was aware of the protection they offered, I am using these style fuses.
I have also found the

Black fusible wire is rated:
Max current, no damage continuos operation 30amps
Min current causing insulation damage and fused strands 50amps
Max current to blow link after 15 sec 70amps
Max current to blow link after 5 sec 130amps

So based on this what rating new style fusible link should I use

You will probably need about 40A for ign, 80-100A for Alternator, really this depends on the loads in the individual circuits, which circuits do you want to know about?
A good ind of rating is the size of the cable comming out of the fusible link.
