I'm looking to upgrade a freinds VN on gas to a Level 3 dash - How does the gas usage get recorded?

Or do I suspect correctly that only petrol usage gets recorded in the trip computer.

Just thought I should find out before I start:)

If you are driving on gas or petrol the trip computer shows DTE?

Or is DTE only for petrol?

Not 100% on this but it SHOULD Show instant Fuel usage as this info comes from injectors/ecu?
DTE i doubt because that comes from the Trip computer working out How many L/100k you are getting and how many litres left in your tank.
I spose it would be possible to get it working if you Somehow got a fuel sender that works in the same format as the petrol one and wired it in to switch over when you switched to gas.

That would also mean the petrol gauge would flick over..

Sorry Just thinking out loud here really i have No idea if its possible :p

Gas cars have a 4 LED tank gauge so fuel gauge should not be an issue.

Currently he uses his trip meter (L1 dash) for gas usage and ignors the petrol gauge as he only runs petrol when towing his van (not as often now days). He keeps 1/3 tank of petrol to keep the pump covered.

So if I set up a L3 dash he may be able to use the instant usage while he is driving plus the trip mode in the trip computer to calculate gas usage when he fills.

Hmmm sounds OK I'll give it a go and if it dont work I can stick his L1 dash back in.

it shows all that stuff, its just not that accurate(i get about the same reading after every tank so i assume it would just be a matter of changing that magical 625 to something else?)
and then it might stuff up your petrol settings and show your using to much fuel when you flick it onto petrol (if that makes sense? since gas uses more and the numbers are changed to give proper gas readings?)

i really need to change mine to suit gas since 98% of the time i drive on gas, i dont really care much about the petrol figures....

So you could set the flow rate to = the gas tank. If we assume gas usage is 15% more as a base figure then I need to change the flow rate by 15% from standard. Reset the tank size by way of setting how much is left (when you press and hold the reset button for 3 second).

Hmmm 15% add = flow rate of 718. Trial and error may be the only way to get it close.

Also the gas tank is not all useable as far as I know - so if you have a 60l gas tank - you can only use maybe 55 lts of gas?

My VQ showed the gas level and the pertol level from the dash gauge, depending what you were running. If you switched form gas to petrol or the other way around it would take a while for the trip computer to adjust.DTE worked perfectly always.Dont have any idea of the set up but thats what it did.

So depending on the gas set up you can have an intagrated system! thanks cool.

I think he has a seperate gas tank gauge. Well by next week we shall know:thumbsup:

mine has a separate gauge aswell.. my problem is my gas tank is like 90litre's or something, can use about 70... so sort of no where near as close as a 60litre tank...

(you can only use about 80% of the tanks full capacity, maybe that helps?)

or just do that trick with adjusting like you do with petrol? see how many litre's you use and when you fill up compare the numbers? e.g used 50 litre's but the screen says 45? then adjust the 625?)
