my old man is having a problem with his vs on gas, it is a factory fitted system and has been running fine for many years until now,

the problem he is having is that when he flattens it or puts the motor under tourqe it blows the top off the air box off. it also blows the top off when going up hills with the air con running,

what is causing this? i did a quick search but could not find any info on causes,
my guess is a leak in the intake pipe after the injector causing it to suck air in and dump the gas in the box, then pop. is that right?

cheers
sean

a while ago i am told, proberly few years
and ks for the car is at the 331243 but it has been wound back from 385 mark(dad sold the car to a *unnamed* holden dealer and they sold it to a yard then i found it 4 sale, clock wound back so told him and he got it off them for dirt cheap) but motor is secand hand vx motor and trans

we had the injector taken appart recently because it stoped working and kept stoping the car from sucking any air in, i replaced the gasket seal around the shrowd as it was sucking in air, interanls looked clean and undamaged, was fine after that now its poping the top

It sounds like the Gas system needs a good tune.

Take it to your Gas specialist for a tune up asap (they recommend 12months / 20,000kms).

You will find the gas mixtures will be way out and the reason for it backfiring while its under load.

If you haven't changed the spark plugs for a while i would replace them to.

mine used to backfire to.... except mine is a vn and alot older.... but usually when that happens i just replace the sparkplugs and no more popping off the box:D... but a tune on the gas cant hurt:D

when ever you change the spark plugs its a very good idea to get a tune done, stainless steel leads are apparently the best ones to use with the gas system ive been told

Yep wayyyyy over due for a service, and make sure he runs it on petrol at least once a month as a minimum otherwise the fuel pump, line, and injectors will gum up again . . . .
