Hi, Tommorow I am dropping my car off for a gas conversion. Just wondering If anyone can give me a part number for the Factory Gas Switch and surround. Also if anyone has pics of the gauges that are being used. I am getting the SVI kit installed and does not integrate with the car computer system, so it will have its own gauge and switch.
i dont think you will be able to connect the factory gas switch to a non-genuine gas system, i may be wrong though.
I just recently had my VY Berlina converted with injected gas and asked the installer if he can integrate it with the fuel guage and he said he could but it would cost extra and he said it can cause problems. I didn't ask what sort of problems. I would like to know if anyone who has gas where it has been integrated with the fuel guage if they had any problems? The switch and guage I was told comes with the system so I thought I had better let him fit the switch the whole system comes with. The thing is he said the guage is quite accurate but I can tell you now it is crap. I get about 250 - 300 km's out of it before the first LED goes out, then I only get about another 150 - 200km's from the last 3 LED lights. The other thing is one of the features I love with the VY is the fuel economy it shows you are getting according to your driving, ie: 12L/100km etc..... That obviously doesn't show with gas but I now wonder if I had insisted the gas be integrated with the fuel guage if the fuel economy feature would have showed what fuel economy I am getting on gas? Can anyone with factory gas tell me if the economy guages work with gas also?
I have had injected gas fitted and was told the switch it comes with is like a USB connection on a computer, in other words it is not a simple on off switch. My system automatically starts on petrol and switches over automatically to gas when the engine has reached about 40 degree's C. In the morning when the engine is cold it takes about 1 - 2 min to switch over to gas. Once the engine is warm it switches to gas immediately after the car is started. On the basic carburettor type gas systems I am told it is a simple on off switch.
I have a vx with fact mixer system and all the computer functions work with it,instantaneous fuel consumption etc as well as using the existing petrol fuel gauge. The fuel level reads perfectly, no sudden variations, just a linear drop as the fuel is used. Im sure the factory mixer setup for the vy would work just as well. Given you have vapor or liquid after market injection, chances are it cant be setup properly in this regard. Some will give readouts, but calculate the values based on petrol airflow etc. There is no way Id be happy with one of those crappy four or five segment led gas gauges in my car either, they look like a cheap and nasty after thought and as you have found out first hand(yes the installer told lies here), at best allow you to guess as to how much fuel may be left.
Thanks for that info. Obvioulsy I probably should have insisted it be integrated. I actually asked the local Holden dealer some of these questions and they said "we don't get involved with gas". Not sure how much it would have cost to get Holden factory gas fitted and how long it would have taken to book it in. Timing was pretty important to me so I was grateful this guy could fit me in quite quickly due to a cancelation. Gas conversions here in WA are probably the dearest in the country. The bastards took advantage of both the federal and state governments grants of $2000 and $1000 and the cost has just blown out. I paid $4400 for Prinz injected gas but most others quoted me $4800 - $5000. This guy told me he was charging $4800 prior to Xmas but dropped his price because the demand had dropped off since the fuel price has slumped. I reckon you guys in the East are paying at least a $1000 less for injected gas would I be right? They are quoting around the $3400 - $3800 for the standard mixer gas install over here.
Hi mate, i have a VY V6 Spack and it is on MIXER LPG, the fuel consumption display works flawlessly with the kit (which is SPRINTGAS BTW), the converter did nothing to "integrate" the two. Just letting you know i have used gas for about 6months now, and about 10,000kms, and not had one single problem!! Despite what alot of the hooligans on this forum will say, gas is much better than it seems.
LOL! I thought you owned a VE R8? Lol, if you are gonna lie, at least don't slip up and make yourself look dumber than you already are.
Now i am his ride. See, i had a bloody feeling you were as camp as a row of tents. Sorry Flat_White, even if i was gay, i have standards
interfacing vy guages are different from vn-vx, same wire but apprently dont work as accurate as the earlier models. Ive never installed interface in vy so cant prove it, only going off what the boys say in vic. Your consumption/100k should still work? But range will stay the same. Again on the injection kits, they all come with there own switchguage, which CAN be modified to interface with factory guage, only ever done it once. But fairly simple mod to carry out. The sender wire is in right hand kick panel, there will be a white flat 2 row plug, in the middle will be a beige wire. Pretty much just need to run that wire through an 87a relay and the gas sender wire through it as well, then give relay an earth, and use power from gas side ( can steal from gas lock off- blue wire ). Thats bout it. Should take installer bout half hour to do. Not sure bout utilzing factory gas switch, never looked at the back of one, but most switches can be retrofitted to any other type/brand of system. Btw average install prices on east coast range from - conventional mixer type : 2700 ( sedans ) - 3900 ( 4x4 ) vapour injection : add 1500 to above prices, generally between 4100-5500 liquid injection : TBA yes liquid injection is here 4400 you payed is fair price for your car (sedan?) BUT prinze isnt a very reputable brand, its very cheap. there prinze kit would of cost installer under 2500, so they made 1900 off you for a 8 hour install so LABOUR rate of 240 an hour :/ our kit would of cost somewhere around 3300. And prices didnt get jacked up just cause rebate came in, company sees none of the rebate, so rebate or not thats what the prices will be around. Also commercial cars dont get rebate, they would get charged same as you. think i answered a few there, any gas questions shoot me a PM
Thanks Everyone for all the replies. Unfortunately the place had several of his employees away this week and so was not able to do it until next week.:bang: Anyway it gives me a bit more time to research this integration. Buzuki, The kit that I am getting installed is the SVI kit. Does this mod, that integrates it with the factory gauge require the use of the TECH2. The reason I ask is cos, last year I had the car booked in for the factory IMPCO gas to be installed, but because my car is manual they couldn't do it as there was no software for the Manuals and apparently they would backfire.
Cheers mate, my installer said he would fit either Sprint Gas or Prinz but he said he couldn't get hold of any Sprint Gas kits when the time came. It all seems to be running quite well so no complaints apart from it not being intergrated with the fuel gauge. It's due for it's first service in a few days so I will quiz him about it then.
SVI? sequential vapour injection? No doesnt require tech 2. The factory impco system requires software upgrade as the factory computer controls the system, where as after market kits run there own computer.
Buzuki, This is the kit that I had installed amrgas-mainpage The place was unable to figure out which wire on the switch to connect back to the relay like you suggested. They were not in a position to just try them as they didn't want to blow the computers up. Could you maybe shed some more light on the wire that should be used.
Will this be the same with a VZ? Next question is the resistance values, will they be close enough to work together?
