    Hey,

I'm pretty new to this but I need some help removing the manual gear shift for a VT exec '98. The plastic strip that runs between the Park and 1 gear has cracked and broken off and I wish to replace it.

How do you remove the rubber gear knob as it is stopping me from removing the black plastic boot part. I've taken out the screw at the front of the gear knob shaft and also removed the console.

Is there another screw somewhere that i'm missing? As ive tried to pull it and shake it off but it simply won't budge.

    Cheers for any help

My manual says, to remove the knob, pull it up while rocking it back and forth. So what you've been doing is right and you may just need to use a bit more force.

    You gotta yank it off...
Jst pull upwards really really hard, (well not too hard, i ended up hitting my hand on the roof!) and swivel it abit...

It feels like ur gonna break it but ur not so its all good!

I've taken mine of a few times for shits n giggles and finally to replace it...
its a pain in the arse but yeah, jst yank it upwards n off!

    Good Luck

the plastic strip? sounds like an auto. the manual shifter isnt held on by any screws, justs needs a bit of effort to pop it off. nothing beats the unscrewing of the T5 shifter knobs.....back in the day

If indeed it is a manual car....I found it easier with a flat head screwdriver, covered in a rag so you dont tear the
rubber around the edges while doing this. Put the flat part of the screwdriver in between the botton of the gear
knob and the metal shaft... then turn like trying to undo a screw and it slides off rather easy. Will work the best if
you can wedge the screw driver right near a bit of the plastic clip the gear knob clamps down on with.

    Cheers
