I believe there’s a shop called gc cars that do v6 to v8 conversions etc perhaps you could get in contact with them as they’d be able to tell you either way if it’s doable without blowing the budget

TLDR, I don’t know if the following will answer your question so best to have a squizzy at the following thread…

https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/ve-5-speed-auto-to-6-speed-auto-conversion.285636/

Also wasn't a 5 speed to 6 speed auto conversion done and discussed in some VZ SS crewman thread (which I can’t find) but the following may also be interesting reads.

Should at least give your some food for thought…

The problem is that the 5L40E box has the transmission control module inside the car (up under the dash IIRC) whereas the 6L50E has the transmission control module inside the transmission itself. In my estimation that is very difficult to overcome without a complete wiring harness from a donor car with a 6 speed auto.

The general consensus seems to be that it would be easier to convert the car to a manual than to convert it from a 5 speed to 6 speed auto., not least because manual conversions have been done before and would require less wiring. I never went ahead with any kind of conversion on my old SV6 and just bought a manual SSV instead!

The problem is there are no 5 speeds in good condition left to buy and rebuilding one well is a dark art and more expensive than building 4 speed and 6 speeds.
ah right, that makes more sense

Correct. It becomes a rabbit hole very quickly.

In regard to the VZ, that is entirely different. It’s far easier. There are adaptor modules that allow it to work.

Ive heard people have done the later LFX/LLT motor a 6speed auto conversion to early VE involves and donor car with all the wiring mounts fuel system etc. Very time consuming
