Recently more often than not i have been having trouble with my 2nd gear popping out when i shift between 2000 - 2500 rpm from 1st . To minimize this happening i usually shift around 3000 rpm . The same thing happens if i shift from 3rd to 2nd with low rpms , so i rev match. As i said this minimizes the problem but doesn't fully eliminate. Today i decided to change the gearbox fluid to my surprise the problem seems to have been rectified. I was able to do change at low rpm and the box all around feels a lot smoother. Although upon removal of the drain bolt this is what i saw . Is this a very excessive amount of shavings for a car with 100,000ks on the clock :/ ?

I would not be worried by that amount of metal shavings on the drain plug.

That's petty normal especially if the oil has never been changed in 100k km.

Good idea to change it again in a few months to double check for more shavings and back to back oil flush never does any harm. As long as there's no big chunks, you're all good. I'd do the same with the diff as good maintenance practice.

The sludge on the drain plug looks like normal wear and tear for a 100k gearbox.

my daughter has just bought a ve and i decided to give it a check over
as the person we bought it from had receipts from k-mart
some of the work looked suss
anyway receipt showed trans service 5000km ago, but i was concerned when i saw the rusty screws from ac drain line were all in the same spot
sure enough, oil was nearly black, original filter and gasket and liquid metal paste on magnet similar to what you have
if it is just pasty it is fine if there are actual shavings then panick
