I had to buy some replacement globes for my Vx the other day, so I went down to Holden spare parts, and this is how much it cost:

Climate control, about $8.50 each

Middle trip computer screen, $15

The two from the climate control were normal globes, and I think the trip computer screen may have been an LED, is it possible to just buy the globes and replace them in the holder? There is no way i'm paying that much again.

yes u can go down 2 ur dick smith or jaycar (more so) and buy some bezels that will wire into the globe holders. Then slip on the green covers

The better alternative again is the LED conversion.

On a practical note, how often do you need to change them? $8.50 every 10 years ain't that bad in the scheme of things...

Yeah you can do that mate, go pay $15 for an LED that costs 10cents.

but like juzo said, after 8 years or so if your paying $10 globe is it really a big problem? If it is then i suggest selling your car and riding the ****ing bus to the retard factory
