And worse yet, the top models get the 10 speed auto so still getting ripped with the 8 speed ....

I would prefer a manual as well, but not one that acts like that cut out crap as it drives me up the wall, If I bought one I would take it back and refuse to drive it that way, the most annoying gearbox ever. you have to change gears like a sloth.
