I am currently reading the book "100 years of GM in Australia", written by Norm Darwin in 2001.

How's this for a quote, obviously written during the good times for Holden.

"The success of the VT/VX at 45.1% of the large segment (as of October 2001), ensures Holden a secure place in the Australian market, dare we say for a further 100 years. Maybe by then the Australian product will not have to be badged as Chevrolets or Omegas or whatever, just maybe they will carry the Holden badge in Europe, Asia and the Americas."

****, how things can change in just thirteen years.

Peoples mind sets change , going down the road of the SUV , the GFC , well nobody saw that coming , and a decision made at GM headquarters in Detroit , probably while the VX was enjoying its reign , to end the Commodores run . To GM , Holden is just cannon fodder , which is annoying , because as mentioned the Commodore was a big seller in Australia , as well as during that time the top seller in NZ as well , a title it had for a long time .

Maybe the government can just buy Holden from gm and start making australian cars, keeps production here and creates jobs (infrastructure is there, no training as the employees are already here, resources are here), better than giving every aussie $1,000...... while they're at it buy back qantas and telstra
