They don't but they'll be out there long after us "hoons" have speeds limiters attached to our cars or so today's news seems to infer anyway.

If I was doing it now I would convert the Firebird again but I would be super careful with it and I would spend a lot of my time making sure it was better than before, but I would basically be at the point of doing a fabricated 1/2 chassis and run a rack rather than a box (Firebird's are a bit like a HQ with the 1/2 chassis). The access to quality aftermarket stuff for old yank cars is fantastic these days, far better than when I restored it in 1993/1994 and far better than what we have for our older muscle cars out here.

If your happy with a 69 Camaro or 67 Mustang you could build an entirely new car with nothing but some compliance plates.......

That said I totally understand not wanting to cut up an original car, I just prefer being of the right (correct) side of the car.

You may note the indicator thing I mentioned, I don't have any problem when I'm in the Firebird, it's when I get back into the Commodore and relax that I start flicking on the wipers on by mistake ..... not that much but I do, do it.

As far as LHD and driving on the left goes id be much more concerned with a tourist behind the wheel as there have been numerous close calls and several fatalities in my neck of the woods when even in a RHD car they sometimes forget to drive on the left.

Edit: As long as we drive on the left the majority of cars will have to be RHD for safety/practical reasons just as it is the opposite elsewhere but for the same reasons.

Exactly and obviously all the knockers have not had to attend the carnage caused when people get it wrong.

    I assume you mean RHD?

Going to a different country that drives on the opposite side of the road is completely different to driving a LHD car in your home country.

Suggest you re read the original posts. The original argument was weather LHD should be freely sold to everyone ie do we want people to cope with driving LHD while inexperienced, texting, applying makeup etc. or is it another distraction we don't need.

Have been in St Thomas in the Caribbean? That is a pretty interesting place as far motoring. Originally was a British Colony with all the laws and regulation. Since the USA took over, the vehicles imported all have Left Side steering wheels. Traffic Laws seems unchanged. When you ride on their cabs/shuttles the driver sits on the left side but they drive on the left side of the road. Does messes up with your head; feels awkward as heck.

But, that is possible, yes is possible and accident free. The transition, well.... that is the problem.

About GM killing RWD V8s? Been done in the USA in the 90s. When GM decided to Import the Monaro and the VE as Pontiac we really welcome them. About dam time Pontiac was offering a proper RWD V8.

FWD is the work of the devil.

from autoblog Chevy SS successor and RHD Camaro plans axed? - Autoblog
    Comments42

If you need the extra convenience of four doors but don't want to give up the thrill of high performance, the Chevrolet SS represents a potent package. The exterior is understated and the design certainly doesn't scream about the 415-horsepower, 6.2-liter V8 hiding beneath the hood. Unfortunately, there are some questions about how long this muscle sedan will last.

According to Motoring in Australia, when Holden ends local production at the close of 2017, the SS and the VF-model Commodore that it's based on are not getting replacements. The site claims that an unnamed, "senior GM executive" confirmed the news at the recent SEMA show. The source also had one interesting tidbit about the future of the SS suggesting that General Motors is considering fitting the trick suspension and carbon brakes from the Camaro Z/28 in the future. Previously, it looked very likely that the Commodore would retire when assembly ended, but earlier rumors suggested that the muscle sedan could be built in North America for its next generation.

When reached for comment by Autoblog, Chevy spokesperson Michael Albano said the automaker isn't able to discuss the SS beyond the 2015 model year.

Performance fans Down Under have even more reason to fret, too, because the same source claims that a right-hand drive variant of the future Chevy Camaro is also "highly unlikely." Production of the coupe is moving from Canada to GM's Lansing, MI, plant for the next generation, and the model is reportedly based on the Alpha platform – also used by the ATS.

If true, the rumor suggests the end of an era for Holden in Australia. It could mean there will be no rear-wheel drive GM V8s in that market after local production shuts down. The Commodore is rumored to be replaced in the lineup by a version of the imported Opel Insignia, a front-wheel-drive-based sedan.

GM's handling of the Holden brand in Australia is just breathtaking. It'll be the case study in university marketing classes for decades to come on how to take the market leader, head and shoulders above the rest and relegate it to a very minor bit player (at best) in a little over 10 years :bang:

LHD/RHD. Pffft, doesn't really matter here in NZ, on a good day many people struggle to stay in their own lanes anyway.......

Road markings are only for amateurs.

I think there is a bit more to the whole thing. My view is that looks like GM wants to pull some of their manufacturing back inside the USA. By no means we are cheap labor, make no financial sense to bring it to the USA (we have Mexico next door).

Anyway, the US Gov still own some shares in GM. Today they are not the sole majority like they used to be, but that does not mean they can influence the board as far business decisions. The news now is pretty much "old news". What is going on now right now has been decided few years back.

Qantas was a very different thing and TBH much of what has happened there was waaaaaaay out of management's hands.
