Once outlook has completed that initial sync, it's plenty fast.

I must admit it's been a while since I paired Outlook and GMail together - good to hear it's improved, it and also Hotmail or any webmail service used to be terribad in Outlook.

My wife uses Outlook 2013 with Hotmail with no issues. Performance really depends on your internet connection speed.

ok just for interest sake I setup GMail in my Outlook 2013 and let it sync

My mailbox shows as 2.83 GB - didn't really take very long at all to sync down I'm on a max 1.1MB download speed here - seems to have gone at full speed of connection.

Let's put it this way - since my last post I researched the setup, set it up and it's now fully synced.

Maybe you didn't set it up correctly?

Going off your speedtest you are on Optus cable? Should have gone pretty quick IMO.

I skipped the Google guide and used this one http://www.howtogeek.com/174837/how-to-add-your-gmail-account-to-outlook-2013-using-imap/ everything looks identical compared to Outlook 2010.

Ive got it down now to synchronise wihtin maybe 10 seconds.. Would be nice ifit was quicker, but I guess its the downfall of using Outlook on a web-based-designed email system

personally I'd double check everything - sounds like you had issues setting it up going off your OP.

Hai.
So, it took me a few days to get GMAIL to work (at home) on Outlook 2010.

admittedly I work in IT so Outlook is second nature but the setup I posted took literally a couple of minutes and it was off.

IMAP always has a sync delay - the joys of IMAP!

Lol, with the setup, I think it was just server/port numbers that I had issues with mainly. It wasnt just a case of Entering through the wizard, and typing in my credentials. Actually ####ed me off quite a bit.
