Hypothetically would you buy one if they were 20% off.

If I was in the market, I'd certainly consider one, even without 20% off. They aren't inherently poor vehicles just different from what we have known for the last 30yrs.

I certainly wouldn't be adverse to giving one a fair chance to impress.

I don't think any of us on here truly want Holden to go down the gurgler and disappear entirely, so I think it's important to remain open-minded about these things. On the other side of the coin, Holden need to pull their socks up in the customer service department as well (amongst other). It must be a mutually beneficial relationship if things are to work into the future.

The standard five year warranty is a good start. Hopefully they build on this and personally I genuinely want them to succeed. They have brought us many wonderful cars over the years, and it's important to remember this is their first full year as an import-only seller. Let's give them a chance.

....and has engines between 1.5 and 2 litres. Gees Louise is that all the chassis can take?
No. Those engines are capable of providing the average buyer with all they want for power and economy in markets where fuel prices make ours seem cheap.

I saw only one on the road yesterday after driving for a few hours including City Link. The dark metallic one I saw looked pretty good from the side, but they must be having serious trouble trying to move them when there are so few on the road. I'll consider one when my wife's car is due for replacement next year. The 5 year warranty and standard auto braking is a good thing, but re-sale value is likely to be even worse then usual. Long term reliability compared to the Koreans and Japanese is also a concern I'd have.

I sat in a VXR yesterday while the Redline was being serviced, I liked it. I then sat in the back and found it hard to get in/out of, and hit my head on the roof, I’m only about 180cm so not impressed with that.
I also think resale will be woeful so will probably look at a Japanese brand when it comes to it.

Good on you. They aren't a bad thing at all.

I get what you're saying. Essentially it's a large hatchback (gee that's hard to say about a car bearing the name 'commodore'..)

My biggest concern about the ZB's prospects is that itbwill be seen as an orphan, the car sold when GM was cleaning out the cupboard and offloading brands. How PSA will continue to maintain an interest in an Opel design over the lifespan of the car is an unknown. There is already a facelift being road-tested and sales here are poor. How could anybody outlay money on a car which has generated such apathy by our market and been basically kicked aside by GM?

My comment was a bit of a bait - what I was getting at was that these must be slugs with a 1.5 engine. European versions of cars have generally had smaller engines/lower power options due to fuel prices. Remember the Escorts with 940cc engines, Cortinas with 1300cc engines, Sierras with 1300 cc, Capris with 1300cc etc. sold in the UK.

Yeah, i remember them. They used those small engines purely for fuel economy reasons andvthey were gutless, but they were also old tech, carbies and points ignition. Not much similarity to the current generation apart from capacity.
