Hey there,

I'm looking into buying my first car. I've saved quite a few on Carsales that I've found, but just wanted to get everybody's opinions on them. I've been told by a mate of mine that the 2002-2004s have the best motors, but I didn't really want anything older than 2004, and my budget is 10k. I've listed all the Commodores that I've saved below:

- 2007 Holden Berlina VE Auto Sedan / 204,608km / 6cyl 3.6L Petrol / $6,990
- 2008 Holden Commodore 60th Anniversary VE Auto MY09.5 Sedan / 207,236km / 6cyl 3.6L Petrol / $6,999
- 2009 Holden Commodore Omega VE Auto MY10 Wagon / 268,631km / 6cyl 3.0L Petrol / $6,999
- 2007 Holden Commodore Lumina VE Auto Sedan / 173,879km / 6cyl 3.6L Petrol / $8,990
- 2010 Holden Commodore SV6 VE Auto MY10 Sedan / 321,036km / 6cyl 3.6L Petrol / $8,998
- 2010 Holden Berlina VE Auto MY10 Wagon / 222,843km / 6cyl 3.0L Petrol / $9,870
- 2012 Holden Commodore Omega VE Series II Auto MY12 Wagon / 227,297km / 6cyl 3.0L Petrol / $10,480
- 2010 Holden Commodore Omega VE Auto MY10 Sedan / 152,231km / 6cyl 3.0L Petrol / $9,680
- 2008 Holden Calais VE Auto MY08.5 Sedan / 200,303km / 6cyl 3.6L Petrol / $9,500
- 2008 Holden Commodore SV6 VE Auto Sedan / 197,255km / 6cyl 3.6L Petrol / $9,990
- 2011 Holden Commodore SV6 VE Series II Auto Sedan / 209,842km / 6cyl 3.6L Petrol / $9,990
- 2009 Holden Commodore International VE Auto MY09.5 Sedan / 148,948km / 6cyl 3.6L Petrol / $9,990
- 2011 Holden Commodore SV6 VE Series II Auto Wagon / 218,416km / 6cyl 3.6L Petrol / $10,500
- 2007 Holden Commodore SV6 VE Auto Sedan / 159,796km / 6cyl 3.6L Petrol / $10,888
- 2010 Holden Commodore SV6 VE Auto MY10 Wagon / 181,350km / 6cyl 3.6L Petrol / $10,990
- 2008 Holden Commodore SV6 VE Auto MY09 Sedan / 167,360km / 6cyl 3.6L Petrol / $10,990

Hope not to overwhelm everybody with my list there. I've got other car makes and models there such as the Barina, Cruze and Malibu. I would prefer however the Commodore, my inner Aussie bogan in the genes probably controlling that in me lol.
I've also been told by my mate that I should be cautious with the Alloytec in regards to maintenance, just hoping to get everybody's opinions on that too.

Just buy one without the 5 speed automatic - they are extremely prone to failure and because they were used for a short period of production are really hard to source - and make sure the timing chains have been done on any 2006-2008 ones.

Avoid at all costs. All of these are basically just poorly built Daewoo cars, if you're going down this path get something Japanese.

My choice would be the red one first, then the blue one then the yellow without looking too closely at them, but inspections are a must.

When I enquire with the car, I'll find out about the timing chains, my mate did make mention to me about it, and if the timing chain breaking will seize the engine I believe. In regards to the other models, I do other Japanese, American, German and Swedish cars in there, so I'll leave the Barina, Cruze and Malibu alone. My neighbour did have a Holden Cruze, which didn't sound very healthy, but I just put that down to her not servicing it enough or something.
Thanks for your help :)

Thanks mate, I appreciate your reply.

I've attached the photos of the cars you highlighted there, and I'd definitely inspect them and test drive them first. I've been told by a couple people now that the timing chain is a problem so I'm also going to make sure that's in good shape.

i be going for the cheapest in that list so to leave some money for repairs, rego and insurance
Okay thank you. I've received a notification about an hour ago that the Berlina which was $6,990 has sold, so now it's the two that're $6,999.

I'd be looking for the lowest km 3.6 preferably not 5 speed.
Thank you. :)
So does this mean that the 3.0L aren't 5 speed may I ask?
The international has the lowest kilometres with 148,948km on the clock.

- 2010 Holden Commodore Omega VE Auto MY10 Sedan / 152,231km / 6cyl 3.0L Petrol / $9,680

This one ??? 2010 Holden Commodore Omega VE Auto MY10 (carsales.com.au)

My 2c worth, but not knowing anything about the particular car .......... lowest kilometres > should not have any timing chain problems as this is well after the series with problems (if it has been serviced regularly ) > Omega not 'sporty' version, which could be beneficial for your insurance costs > seems clean all round, which could mean it has been looked after.

Edit .... That International looks good also.
