Very South and that will be on everything post VF and rebadged / imported. Just check out prices on the Cruze and compare that to comparables in other brands. John Cadogan has pretty much spelt it out for those that don't understand the financials of it all.
If the current models are un-saleable now, and the proposed discounts do not cover the anticipated depreciation, then a trade-in in 4 years time will be pretty much the same as our old 18 year clapped out Barina last year …. $500 …. which was less stuffing around than taking it to the recyclers/wreckers. If you buy a heavily discounted current model with the intention of keeping it for 10 years or more, good value. That is if the support is there, not a half-arsed token effort to do nothing.
Buying a car with the features you want at a price that’s been heavily discounted can be worth while depending on what you do with your cars, and if it’s reliable and maintainable (spare parts available). So, spending $50k on an ‘end of life’ new car and selling it for say $17k (66% depreciation) some 4 years later could cost you $8250 per year in depreciation costs alone. A non ‘end of life’ new car wouldn’t depreciate at such a heavy rate (45% => $5625/year depreciation) . If the end of life new car is well built, reliable and easily serviced and you keep it for 20 years, junking it for $0 at the end of your use, it will cost you $2500 per year in depreciation which isn’t bad. Add rego, insurance and servicing to the depreciation and the end result would be about $4k to $5k per year excluding petrol and toll charges, again not bad... Which is better than flipping a popular low depreciation run of the mill new car after 4 years... At the end of the day, depreciation is only relevant if one flips their cars often. I’m not in the market for another car but if I was, I’d consider a Holden if it was going cheap enough... like 50% off... There are lots of 3rd party knowledgeable mechanics about so that I’d not have to rely on a dealer (which many agree provide piss poor service while smearing grease everywhere ).
You have to wonder how much shuttering the brand will cost GM. Surely they are going to cop a fairly big hit.
They're quoting US$1.1b with only US$300m of net cash charges leaving US$800m of tax avoidance. More here - https://www.whichcar.com.au/news/holden-exit-to-cost-gm-1-billion
It's sad I grew up in Australia whith mum and dad had panel van holden ute holden and over holdens I agree to a degree Americans rich money man to be blamed alot but its greed all over including Australia mate
Same way in America to man every cousin I have and uncle in Australia have to travel all over Australia for work even the world for work sad it was better in the 90s then they shut bhp down and other stuff that messed up so many jobs
which pretty much confirms that unless something drastic happens they will never be back in the form they are now, it really is the end of an era.
Its just another nail in the coffin for Australia, not much future for this country jobs give people a hope a purpose in life without them what is our new generation going to do bar take drugs filling our prison system, there's a idea become a prison guard they will never close down they will have to build more prisons to house the unemployed.. I see ScoMo just announced a royal commission into the fires we had another few million of wasted tax payers money, we know why the fires were so bad, greens along with the UN locking up our parks and stopping backburns and land clearing as well as no stock in the parks, we had a royal commission way back and the greens stripped those fire protection plans that was put in place with red tap. We was a rich country thriving with jobs and opportunity not no more, ever since John Howard days selling of Telstra to keep the books balanced it was the turning point when this country become available for sale. Geelong taken the biggest hit with job loses. Our future isn't looking to good as more 3rd world countries taking our jobs to work for 10 Aussie dollars a day. Australia RIP.
so you rekon we should build a huge prison down in Geelong and house everyone due to all the jobs leaving and going OS, what next ?
Nope I didn't say just Geelong the whole country, crime rate will only increase due to cost of living and the welfare card limiting cash if rolled out, not hard to see the trend theft from cars to home invasions to smash and grabs are only going to become a everyday occurrence not once or twice a week. 550 a fortnight wont even pay for rent these days so as the jobless keeps growing comes more theft..
Yeah I know, I was just having a poke, it's just a link in the circular chain is now missing and we'll never manage to bridge it again. It seems that our stupid government seems to think everyone can have a job in Hospitality, Tourism and Aged Care. Yep that'll carry the country well won't it? I've always said that manufacturing is the backbone of any country and if you don't make anything to sell you just go by the wayside. Serving coffee seems to be about the only thing we make now and that's the wet end product of it, not growing it.
Reading in the paper, they are talking 10 to 17 K depending on what you want to buy....The Colorado being 17K off
serving coffee and selling minerals/ore from big holes in the ground. China will be your friend until you no longer have what they need, then, watch out!
