I replaced my handbrake several months back - noted that the cable is only 3- 4 feet long. Should be immediately under your center console.

There is a handle adjustment under the boot of the handle, you'll need a deep 10mm socket and wind it down, this tightens the cable to the handle.
Should be around the 6-7 clicks.
If you've tightened the handle and it still doesn't hold then it will require adjusting at the rear handbrake linings inside the rear discs.
Try adjusting the handle first and see how you go.

Other way around, never adjust the cable by the handle first. ALWAYS do the adjusters on the rear discs first.

Second that.

Back the handle adjuster off, adjust the rear shoes, then re adjust the handle.
