How many genuine 44 Chryslers and such do you see getting around? Hell, its fairly rare to see a Model T, and at one point they made up 55% of the cars on the plannet. Can't remember how long its been since I seen one... Eventually Kingswoods will be the same, and XY falcons. One day, VN SS will hold the same prestiege as a v8 HQ.
Yes, but you're talking VERY old cars there....The motor car has come a long, long way since then. However, when you compare a Torana or HQ to a 1st or 2nd gen commo (probably even early 3rd for that matter), the motor car didn't evolve very far in that 20 year period IMO. Chrome bumper cars will be around for a long time yet, believe me. VN will never hold the same prestige as an HQ. Go to a hot rod run and see how many 1930-1950 model cars are still alive and kicking, you'd be very suprised.
I can remember when I was young, HQ's were everywhere. This only going back to the early/mid 90's. They were a dime a dozen. Now... Not so much.
LOL, where are you living? I see multiple HQ-WB's everyday here, infact sometimes i think they are getting more popular these days. From all reports I've heard from this year Summernats, there were more HQ-WB's than commos, and thats saying something when you're talking about the commodorenats. This is getting way off topic though....
Having A 57 pontiac and the staesman I can see both sides But Im always hesistant about showing the statesman with classics or V8 's for matter But I find that the stato gets a good response because its different and not the usual V8 Combo ,But to be honest I sick of seeing sub standard cars entered in shows especially late model stuff ,if I want To look at sub standard cars I would just look through street commodore magazine they seem to out number the good cars in most issues
Wouldn't they both be race cars being group C's? If so, they'd both be let in. Not exactly your run of the mill VH-VK Commodore now are they?
This is the problem, as far as I am concerned rather then an age cut off everyone should have to submit specs and photos prior to entry and make a decision based on that. I have been to P@HR quite a few years and to be honest I have seen plenty of pre 85 cars that were nothing special, hell a large portion looked like they had been found at the wreckers the day before.
Here in Adelaide a few years ago the organiser of Extreme Horsepower sent a letter to clubs inviting them to pick a few cars each, but stated he didn't want cars with "hungry jacks modifications (lowered, 2.5 inch exhaust, tinted windows and 18" rims)." I totally supported that because at that point I had attended quite a number of shows and was pretty annoyed at paying $20 odd to get in just to see a couple of insane off your face vehicles you never see on the streets, followed by rows and rows of daily drivers that where highly polished with a few "standard" modifications. Of course around the traps those members with cars that had Hungry Jacks mods and usually entered the show were up in arms and very indignant this man dared to deny them entry. However you could see where he was headed, a show full of dribble factor and wet your pants car after car.
this was the first time ive turned up to the show not in a classic, my other rides are toranas, and both this year werent ready for the show, so i decided to cruise down in my vt ss, not as glamorous as a ferrari, but its another pride and joy of mine. getting denied the entry despite ive been a loyal paying customer for years just rubbed **** in my face. alot of people my age cannot afford to get a classic to be into as a car, they have work and rent to pay and whatevers left over usually will go into whatever there daily is. when these kids come to abig show like this, chances are theyl see a older classic they will like and it will have a dramatic effect into them wanting /desiring one, whether it be a mustang or a morris. but excluding and discriminating people from these sorts of days, will turn them off , they wont be back next year with all there mates, they wont desire a classic, and we will end up with a scene much like the hot rod scene, a dying breed which is comming to an end. dont get me wrong i love a good older car show, but leave the moderns in, nothing like a show seeing the old girls and some new muscle and exotic stuff all in one, becoming this exclusive list of this stuff has turned myself and quiet a few of my fellow friends off of returning to this event some with cars that are inredibly rare to australia. sad to see the old farts once again stuff it up for everyone who was having fun.
So you just turn up in a non classic car and expect just because you have been before you have an automatic right to display whatever car you want? News for you buddy, you don't run the show, it's not your party, you don't get a say and as a paying spectator I don't want to hand over my cash to look at your VT SS - I can see them all day long on the roads. You say in your OP you spent some money getting you VT to look like you want but is it a muscle car? Or just a VT with a phat exhaust, lowered and tinted windows? Nothing special? If so again, why would the public want to pay to see that? It's only special to you really. It's not a head turner on the street is it in all honesty? You really need to take off your rose coloured glasses and stop being a sook because the public don't want to pay to see a well looked after 12 year old car.
i went for the first time this year and totally and thoroughly enjoyed it, i couldnt get over the amount of cars. i love old school muscle, and wasnt fussed at all that there were minimal newer cars. for me i didnt want to see rows and rows of your average dailys. to the OP, why didnt you take your torana? i get ur frustration being turned down and the double standards, but being at the show many times before, didnt it click that the amount of newer cars were almost null? that would have given you some clue? the organisers have the final say, it may hurt but flip the senario, if it was ur event, you've paid for the venue and you want mostly -1985 cars, you have every right to turn down standard newer cars.
How are they "stuffing it up for everyone"? They're mearly not allowing entry for late model cars....Thier show, thier rights. I go to car shows on a fairly regular basis and i would much rather go to a show with a cut off than an "anything goes" car show. If i wanted to look at rows and rows of late model "hotted up" cars i'd go to my local Coles car park and have a look around there. You can cruise down in your VT SS, you just have to park in the car park, same as if i was to drive down in my VN Calais (not that i would when i have 2 other cars that fit the criteria)....Big deal Chrome bumper cut off car shows is where it's at IMO.
I agree with a few points here. If a car show is gazetted as Classic pre 1985, then it should be just that - no exceptions. I can see OP's beef with the double standards thing, that would p*ss me of too big time, and that could potentially loose patronage to the show. Blown - couldn’t agree more re chrome bumper cut off - CHROME RULES!!
Sweet my 1993 Patrol can be entered bacause the rear bumpers are chrome?I understand your opinions but i think they are bit narrow minded.I think i know where your heart lies with resapect to cars but you need to branch out a bit. Look at a HQ Belmont with 3 spd manual and drum brakes all round, crap povo pack in their day but now look at the prices for a good one now.Yes VN will become a classic, its just the way it is. I share your passion for the older models but things change.
No i don't need to branch out a bit, i didn't say EVERY car show should be chrome bumpers only (or cut off year). There are heaps of shows that allow late model cars in (and some that are only late model stuff), so once in a while it's great to see a car show that is for classic cars only. No need for people to get all upset when they get rejected for entry because their car is past the cut off year. Hell, i've been to a show or 2 where my chrome bumper cars aren't allowed to enter because they're past the cut off year, i don't get all upset, that's the way it is. You are right, my passion lies with older/classic cars, but i still attend shows that allow all makes and models, no problem.
