OK, I own a series I VT Berlina V6, and I'm bored of it. I've been wanting to do some power/performance mods on it for a couple of months, such as exhaust (2.25 inch opened up/extractors), CAI, maybe cam or roller rockers, and a good ol' fashioned lowering. I've got myself a full time job and could start doing these modifications. But, I'm only 18 months away from gaining my full license, and always wanted a 5.7 l so have also been considering trading in on a VX SS around my 21st B/Day sometime, I could get about $8k-$10k for my car now I think. So my question is; would the power gained to money spent be worth it in my VT with my proposed mods, or should I hang off and start fresh with a GenIII with relatively low kms and more starting power/power potential? Considering at the moment a VX SS with relatively low kms is around $20K-$25K, and I would upgrade to a V8 Holden of some sort eventually. Any suggestions, or your personal preferences in this? Cheers & beers
Yeah hard decision, theres nothing quite like a V8 commy, but personally i would keep the VT and mod it up, you wont have to spend $15 grand and you will have a car that packs a punch in the end.
mods done on a v8 have a better power gain than on a v6. personally i would get the v8 and do a few simple mods like exhaust, extractors, CAI, etc and you will be grinning. you just cant beat the feel of a v8. but thats my opinion and its up to you.
I've been wanting to mod my v6 too.. until the other day when I was lined up with 2 other cars and I didn't even bother to go because it would of been no good. I want a v8.. I don't wanna piss away money on mods for a v6 if a stock 8 is gonna beat it anyway. Not that I'm going to be dragging =P
Have you thought about getting a s/c v6 with a few mods such us pulley upgrade, RR, cai, extractors+ zorst and if you want some serious horsepower an intercooler. You can get some pretty serious power out of these with a few mods that would put the wind up a few V8s :yeah:
Ive heard of a few fellas having problems with the bottom end of the ecotech not holding up to that kind of horse power and ending up costing them alot of money to strengthen it up. Or others had to put in an l67 bottom to cope with the horsepower
true. Its not safe running that sort of power on standard bottom end although 7psi and 210kw works a treat on standard bottom end. The other thing is that the vn v6 buick motor can handle more kw than the ecotech and new 6's so if cash is a problem , your better off turboing a vn or vp since you dont need to spend much on modifying the bottom end of your motor.
Well, it's not the power thing. Although I am after a bit-more-than-stock power, I have just always wanted a V8 for my car, I would still try to improve it though!!! The rumble of a V8 just owns driving a V6 for me. The sound they create, with a bit of exhaust tweaking, can be great. Plus I've always despised petrol...
